Developing Classroom Guidelines: Rules, Rewards, Consequences and Daily Schedule for Third

Grade students in Miss Rices Class


Guidelines/Rules:
1. Be Respectful
2. Be Responsible
3. Be a Good Listener
4. Be a Hard Worker
These guidelines/rules are to be followed by each student daily.

Rewards (for following guidelines/rules):


1. Silent Reading Time (RAP)
2. Extra Art Lessons
3. Treats (related to curriculum)
4. Special guests (related to curriculum)
5. Field Trips (related to curriculum)
As students follow guidelines/rules as a group, points will be earned and totaled weekly. Weekly points can result in
smaller rewards or saved and added together to earn a larger reward.

Consequences (for choosing to not follow guidelines/rules):


1. First Violation verbal warning
2. Second Violation above plus immediate time out period (in class) and card moved to yellow.
3. Third Violation above plus time owed at recess and card moved to red.
4. Fourth Violation above plus visit to the principals office and card moved to black.
Consequences will be assigned individually. In extreme situations a student can be moved through the level of
consequences in a short amount of time. Students on red or black at end of day will also receive a phone call home.

Exceptions to the guidelines/rules, rewards, and consequences might be necessary and will be made at the
discretion of Miss Rice.
Anticipated Daily Schedule (Due to assemblies, and a variation in the time of some daily special schedules this
schedule may not be a true minute by minute indication of your childs day). If you would like to visit during a certain part
of the day to observe or assist in the classroom please call or email ahead to verify the schedule for the day of your choice.)
8:45-9:00 Attendance and Breakfast
9:00-9:45 Opening: Morning Meeting, Bellwork and RAP Time
9:45-10:30 Reading
10:30-11:00 Writing
11:00-11:15 Recess
11:15-12:00 Lunch
12:00-12:30 PE/Music/Library/Computers (Daily Special)
12:30-1:30 Math
1:30-2:00 Science/Social Studies
2:00-2:15 Recess
2:15-3:05 Reading Groups/PIE Time
3:05-3:15 Daily Review and Preparation for Dismissal

questions I will call my childs teacher.
