Language Screening Guidelines

The language screening telephone interview is about

establishing your current level of general and professional
English and to determine when you are ready for an
interview with a potential employer. Candidates are
assessed on their general and professional vocabulary,
fluency,
accuracy,
pronunciation
and
general
communicative ability.

Before the Language Screening

In order for you to be able to do your best, it is important
that you prepare and practise for the interview. For most
positions, a B2 or C1 European level is required, which is
equivalent to an IELTS 6.5/Linguarama 3.0-3.5/UBELT 3.0.

Choose a quiet location for the interview, so you can

clearly understand the questions and you are not
disturbed by outside noise when giving your answers.

During the Language Screening

Do not give very short answers or long lists of
examples when answering questions. Try to make
sure your answers are coherent and the information
you give is structured in a way that is easy to follow.

Elaborate on the information you provide, as this will

be an important skill when attending a future job
interview.
If you cannot remember a specific word or you are
having problems with grammar, it is essential that
you are able to rephrase/paraphrase your information
and continue to speak confidently. You dont need to
be absolutely precise but you do need to be fluent
and sound confident and positive.
After the Language Screening
After the telephone interview, the interviewer will write a
descriptive evaluation of your language skills and forward
it to your recruitment consultant. Your recruitment
consultant will then discuss with you when you may be
scheduled for an interview and what opportunities there
are to further improve your professional English, if
necessary.
