ORGANIZING HOMEWORK

How We Will Exit Our Classroom

Explanation:
The way we exit a room will reflect the atmosphere of our classroom and the responsibility our students have to becoming excellent academic
citizens.
Rationale:
When we exit a classroom utilizing self-control, self-discipline, and respect for others, we set the framework of how our students will behave
throughout the day.
What are some behaviors that should be used when exiting a classroom?
Respect
Discipline
Portraying a calm, cool, and collected attitude
What are some things that each student should already know is expected of them when they exit the classroom?
Leaving the class orderly
Ensuring that each student has their homework binder with them and understands the assignment that has been given.
Keeping their voice volume low and respecting each others individual space.
How does having self-control & self-discipline benefit you in the future?
It increases your opportunity for success as an adult by displaying organization, respect, responsibility, and accountability.
Explain and Model the Procedure:
1. 10 minutes before the bell, the teacher will repeat what is expected for the homework assignment and ask if any student has any questions.
2. 5 minutes before the bell, the teacher will have each student check to ensure they have their homework binder and may begin quietly packing up
their backpack.
3. If the homework binder is being turned in for grading, each student will calmly take their binder to the appropriate shelf.
4. When the bell rings, each student will stand and proceed in an orderly manner to the door.
5. As the students are exiting the room, farewells of the day can be said to the teacher and peers, utilizing a low volume and using appropriate
language, such as Have a good day; See you tomorrow; Goodbye.
6. Once through the doorway, students will continue to use a low volume when speaking and calmly move through the hallway in an appropriate
manner.
Practice and Re-Enforcement of Behavior:
At this time we will practice exiting the classroom in an orderly manner, utilizing the steps listed above.
Each week that the students follow the procedure for exiting the classroom appropriately, 5 points will be added to your
Professional/Class Participation grade. (This is in combination with Entering the classroom procedure)
Check for Understanding:
Can someone tell me what the first objective is in finishing the day in an organized manner? (10 minutes prior to bell, students will
have the homework assignment repeated and an opportunity to ask questions about it)
Why is it important to speak to your teacher and peers at the end of the day? (Shows respect)
How will following this procedure each day, increase your success as an adult when you enter the workforce? (Exhibits organization,
respect for co-workers, that you are responsible and accountable as an employee when you are leaving for the day and behave in an
appropriate manner when doing so)
