CHECKLIST FOR CLIMBING MT.

KINABALU (FOR ORDINARY SABAHAN CLIMBERS)


ITEMS
A) Clothings to Hike
1) 4 T-shirts
2) 4 pairs of short pants & 2 water resistant track pants
3) 1 light trouser
4) 5 pairs of underwears
5) 1 pair of good trekking shoes (usually from Timpohon to Laban Rata, and back
Timpohon)
6) 1 pair of Addidas Kampung (usually for summit)
7) 1 cap
8) 1 towel
9) 1 toothbrush & toothpaste
10)
2 pair of glove (for summit)
11)
1 Jacket with hood to cover ears (for summit)
12)
(1 long johns torso and legs, 1 sweater) or (2 layers of t-shirts, 2 layers of
longpants) (for summit)
13)
4 pairs of socks (for Adidas Kg, wear double sock to prevent blisters)
14)
2x Poncos (Timpohon to Laban Rata)
15)
Plastic bag (garbage bag) to cover bag, also plastic bags to water proof
clothing inside (Timpohon to Laban Rata)

CHECKLIST FOR CLIMBING MT. KINABALU (FOR ORDINARY SABAHAN CLIMBERS)


*note: this is just the basic checklist. Climbers can add or reduce items
according to their needs
Climbing tips:

Do not drink soda. Just plain water.


Do not disturb the surroundings
Do not take anything from the mountain, just pictures
Do not rush, just walk steadily and continuously
Need to reach Laban Rata by at least 1.30pm, otherwise rain
Morning is almost always a good weather, afternoon will rain
Can wear short pant and t-shirt during climb from Kinabalu Park to Laban
Rata, from there onwards need to be fully clad
8) If started to rain, wear poncos immediately, water proof bag and its
contents, dont let them get wet.
9) Dont let the wind get to you when youre wet, otherwise youre dead
meat.
10)
People will almost certainly have altitude sickness, take
ALTITUDE SICKNESS PILL when started to feel nausea, especially
after reaching altitude of 2,400 a.m.s.l
11)
Bring a stick for hiking, any stick.. just to support you during the climb
12)
Cut toenail before climb
13)
Pray for a safe climb, listen for any tremors ask guide if got rumbling
in mountain the day before
Climbing Programme
1st Day (4th Feb 2016, Thursday)
8am
Start climb
Between 1pm and 5pm
must reach Laban Rata
6pm
Dinner, bath (optional), prepare items for summit
7pm
Sleep
2nd Day (5th Feb 2016, Friday)
1.00am
- Wake up, brush teeth, breakfast, ensure items not left
behind, gear up
for summit
1.30am
- start climb
5.00am
- must reach Sayat-Sayat before 5.00am, otherwise
cannot summit
6.00-7.30am
- reach summit, take pictures, watch sunrise, then go
down
9.30am
- reach Laban Rata
2.00pm earlier or later
- reach Timpohon, go back
