MANAGEMENT, CONDUCT RULES AND GUIDELINES


I. MANAGEMENT
Gymnasiums (old and new) are Institute Community Facilities operating under the
Physical Education Section through Sports and Physical Education Committee appointed by
the Director.
The expenses incurred in day to day maintenance, hiring instructor/labours, procuring
equipment and running of the gymnasiums will be met out of the income generated through
membership fees.
The staff of the gymnasiums will be directly under the control of the In-charge, Physical
Education Section. The day to day maintenance and procurement of necessary items required
for the maintenance of the gymnasiums are the responsibilities of the In-charge of the PE
section.
Sports and Physical Education Committee (SPEC):
The committee consists of the following members:

Sports Secretary, Students Gymkhana

One faculty member of the committee is appointed as the Chairman of the SPEC.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Sports and Physical Education Committee with
respect to the gymnasiums:

To lay down policy guidelines for smooth running of the gymnasiums.


To decide about membership fees for different categories of users.
To decide about the timings and slots for gymnasium usage.
To formulate/revise conduct rules for smooth running of the gyms.
To employ/terminate gymnasium instructor(s) and labors for the gymnasiums under
work assignment/project mode or through a contractor.
6. To procure and write off gym equipment.
7. To plan issues including future requirement of facilities and optimum use of the
current facilities.
8. To decide about any other matter (financial or non financial) which it deems
necessary for the smooth running of the gymnasiums.

All administrative and planning of the committee (like those mentioned in points, 1, 4, 5 and
7) must be conducted through/with Dean of Students Affairs.

II. CONDUCT RULES/GUIDELINES


1. Gym membership is open to the following categories of persons:

Institute employees and their dependents; Retired employees and their


spouses.
Students; Dependents of married students.
Project employees and their spouses.
Alumni and their spouses.
Visiting employees and their dependents; Visiting students, Institute guests.
Employees of campus organizations who are officially allowed to stay on
campus and their dependents.

2. Identity card or health center booklet should be produced at the time of submitting the
membership application form or the application should be forwarded by the Chairman,
SPEC.
3. Members are allowed to enter the gym only after they have signed the register and
handed over the membership cards at the counter. At the end of their slot members are
required to collect back their membership cards.
4. Members should be in proper sports kit (T-shirts, Lowers/Shorts/track suites and
Shoes) before entering the gym.
5. All users should bring a hand towel and the same should be used to wipe the
bench/machine after the use.
6. Gym timings and the slots given must be adhered to by all members.
7. Members of the old gym who are using treadmills and elliptical trainers must bring
clean shoes and wear them at the gym or use the shoes provided by the gym.
8. Members of the new gym should bring clean shoes to be used exclusively for the gym
and the same have to be worn in the changing room before entering the gym.
9. Dumbbells should not be dropped.
10. Dumbbells, weight plates and rods should be kept in proper location after use.
11. The time for usage of treadmills and elliptical trainer are restricted to 15 minutes
during the peak hours (6:30 AM 7:30 AM and 6:00 PM 8:00PM).
12. The machines and benches should not be shifted.
13. Memberships of those who are violating the rules/guidelines will be terminated.
