Spring 2016

Date: March 9-11, 2016


Name of Lab: Skinning the Cat
Pre-Lab

Get goggles and aprons for the lab group (Bring back to lab
group in classroom area.)/Check each group member for close-toed
shoes, hair and clothes pulled back, goggles and apron worn properly
and put a checkmark by your group number on the front board
o Name: Josh
Get procedure sheets/verbal instructions from me (Share this
with your lab group before you begin the dissection.)
o Name: Rayni
Put green tray with dissecting instruments on lab station/Put
dissecting tray on table and cover with paper towels
o Name: Tyler
Get cat out of bag and put on paper towel covered dissecting
tray/Empty fluid from plastic bag and put it in tan tub; put tub under
lab station
o Names: (this will take 2 people) Josh and Kensey

During Dissection
Read procedure instructions for the dissector(s)/Direct
dissecting: make sure each group member gets a chance to dissect;
keep group on task; be aware of time
o Name: Rayni
Actual dissection (dissectors)
o Names: Josh, Rayni and Kensey
Compose the technical journal for the lab report (This is a step
by step log of what happens during the dissection. The easiest way to
do this is a bulleted list.)
o Name: Tyler
Take images and/or videos as required for lab report (This will
be different for each lab.)
o Name: Kensey and Josh

Clean up
Put cat back into bag, close the bag with clamps, put into
second bag and close it with paper clips; put it back into the tan tub
and put it under your lab table.
o Names: Josh and Kensey
Clean dissecting tray with paper towels used to line tray, discard
these and any tissue pieces, and then bring tray to me to be
rinsed/Dry dissecting tray and set it up for the next dissection or put it
away, as directed
o Name: Rayni

Clean, dry and put away dissecting instruments; put dissecting


equipment into green tray and put the tray under your lab station;
empty water from plastic containers (4th block)
o Name: Tyler
Clean lab table with purple cleaner and paper towels
o Name: Josh
