Orchestra

2. Course description

Ensembles
Beginning Orchestra: No musical experience required! Students will be
taught the necessary skills to play a string instrument. The main focus of
this class will be string technique, reading music, and music theory. All 6th,
7th, and 8th grade students are welcome to join!
Concert Orchestra (Intermediate): Students will build on the techniques
acquired in their beginning orchestra class. Pre-requisite: Beginning
Orchestra or by audition.
Philharmonic Orchestra (Advanced): Students will build on the
techniques acquired in their previous orchestra classes. Students will work
on a variety of challenging pieces. Pre-requisite: Concert Orchestra or by
audition.
Symphonic Orchestra (Very Advanced): Students will build on the
techniques acquired in their previous orchestra classes. Students will work
on a variety of challenging pieces of music and continue to reinforce reading
skills, music theory, and scales. Students will be required to participate in
UIL Contest. Pre-requisite: By audition ONLY!
3. Instructor Biography

Meet the Director


Ms. Anne L. Bewig is originally from St. Louis, Missouri,
where she received her Bachelor of Music Education degree,
magna cum laude, from the University of Missouri St. Louis
where she studied with Joanna Mendoza and the other
members of the Arianna String Quartet. She also attended
Lindbergh High School in St. Louis, where she successfully
completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program
with music as a sixth area of study.
Ms. Bewigs primary instrument is viola, and she has performed with many
orchestras throughout Missouri, including the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra.
She also has years of experience teaching private lessons and has performed as
both an instrumentalist and a vocalist as a freelance musician.
In addition to her teaching duties, she also enjoys watching Star Trek, reading,
playing logic puzzles, and spending time with friends and her cats, Rory and Angel.
She looks forward to her 2nd year of teaching orchestra in the Humble Independent
School District at Ross Sterling Middle School.
