Procedure for cloze tasks


Read text for general understanding
Read again fill in obvious answers
Work out remaining answers:
a.read whole sentence carefully
b.Is word singular/plural, positive/negative,
part of an expression, etc
Read once more to check for accuracy and
spelling

Part 3 Word formation


A text with eight numbered gaps,
each of which represents a word.
Change STEM word to complete
the sentence correctly.
Total 8 marks (one mark each answer)

Part 4 Key word transformations

Lead-in sentence followed by a key


word.
Use key word to complete the
response sentence in 38 words

1. put the key word in original form

Tips for Reading


Time yourself carefully. If you get stuck go on and
come back to the question later
Always scan quickly through texts to get idea and
organisation of text
Read stems (first part of question) carefully.
Make sure answer you choose is correct when you match it with stem.
