2. AATJ Nengajo Contest (Deadline 12/26)


The AATJ Nengajo Contest is a nationwide contest for students in elementary school, middle school, high
school, and university. All participants receive a certificate of participation. Winners at each level in each
category also receive certificates and prizes from AATJ. The submission must be postmarked on or before

3. International Student Conference (12/31)
JASC competitively selects 72 delegates from Japan and the U.S. to explore U.S.-Japan issues. The 2016
conference will convene in the U.S.

4. ACTFL 2016 Call for proposals (Deadline 1/13)
The 2016 ACTFL Annual Convention and World Languages Expo of the American Council on the Teaching
of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) will be held November 18-20, 2016 with pre-convention workshops on
Thursday, November 17, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, Massachusetts. The
submission deadline for proposals is Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
5. J-LEAP application (1/16)
This program brings Native Japanese Language Assistant Teachers (ATs) to K-12 educational institutions in
the U.S. for up to two years to strengthen Japanese language programs by providing an AT to team-teach with
the Lead Teacher (LT) in their classes as well as create opportunities to nurture a new generation of qualified
Japanese language teachers. The program started in 2011 and is jointly administrated by The Japan
Foundation (JF) and The Laurasian Institution (TLI). Currently we have a total of 19 ATs in 11 different

6. Registration for the 2016 National Japanese Exam (12/17-2/19)
Registration for the 2016 National Japanese Exam will open on December 17, 2015, and stay open until
February 19, 2016. Get ready now by reading about the exam levels and seeing sample questions; all are
