Feedback Document Lesson One

Simon Davies provided a golf lesson summary to Nigel. The key points addressed were: 1) Nigel had a strong grip that was causing a closed club face at impact, so his grip was adjusted to show two knuckles on the left hand and create a V-shape pointing to his right ear with both hands. 2) Nigel's ball position was too far back, so a routine was outlined to position the ball correctly based on the club being used. 3) Nigel's stance was very narrow, so he was instructed to widen it to shoulder-width for better balance and consistency.

Nigel,

I was delighted with your progress today, I hope you took a lot of positives out of the
session and your attitude was excellent!

Just to go over the main points from the session to ensure your understanding of the
changes made during the session.

Grip
Your grip was very strong at the start of the lesson, meaning that too many knuckles were
showing on your left hand and your right was too much underneath the grip. This was
causing your club face to be closed (pointing left) at impact.

Correct technique

The left hand should be position with two knuckles showing and a v is created which points
between the sternum and right shoulder, ideally pointed at your right ear.
Place your right hand on top, overlapping your little finger (right hand) on top of the left
index finger with the V between thumb and index finger again pointing to the right ear.

This is how the grip should look when you take your grip. You can clear see the two knuckles
on the left hand. Also note the V’s on the right and left hand pointing towards the right ear.

Ball position
Your ball position was too far back in stance, causing inconsistencies in the strike.

 Routine for correct ball position

o Stand with your feet together
o Firstly, take your stance with your left foot
o Then, take your stance with your right foot
o Make sure your ball position in the correct position by making reference to your
sternum.
o Example ball positions;
 Pw – middle of the stance
 7 iron – just left of centre (relate to the position of the sternum)
 Driver – just inside the left heel (a club head’s width).
Stance
Your stance width was very narrow meaning that your golf swing was unsupported by
your legs.

Ensure that your stance is shoulder width as this will provide a solid foundation for your
golf swing and help improve the consistency of strike.

One final alteration we made was to turn both left and right foot outwards.

This will increase the room your body has to rotate through impact and again produce a
more controlled, stable golf swing.

I hope you enjoyed the session, any problems do not hesitate to contact me, either via
phone or email.

Regards,

Simon Davies, PGA Assistant Professional.
