This had long been expected, and all
preparations had been made. Snowball, who had studied an old book of Julius Caesar's campaigns which he had found in the farmhouse, was in charge of the defensive operations. He gave his orders quickly, and in a couple of minutes every animal was at his post.
2. Narrator
At the graveside Snowball made a
little speech, emphasizing the need for all animals to be ready to die for Animal Farm if need be.
3. Boxer and Snowball
"He is dead," said Boxer
sorrowfully. "I had no intention of doing that. I forgot that I was wearing iron shoes. Who will believe that I did not do this on purpose?"
4. Narrator
"No sentimentality, comrade!"
cried Snowball from whose wounds the blood was still dripping. "War is war. The only good human being is a dead one." Throughout the spring and summer they worked a sixtyhour week, and in

Describe what your primary source
quote does to support your theme. What does it explain to the reader about your analysis? Why is it important for the reader to understand your character and this quote? This quote supports the theme by showing that Snowball gives the orders and every animal listens without hesitation. It explains that they have a set ruler and nothing any other animal says goes, only in the rulers and in this case it is Snowball and Napoleon. It is important because it is a great example of Tranny/Totalitarianism. The quote supports the theme by explaining that the animals are being told that if they have to put their life on the line for the rebellion they would have too with no questions to be asked. No man or animal should be told to fight for their death if thats not what they want. These animals are being ruled by dictators who are taking advantage of their power. Snowball and Napoleon set out orders to fight until death. That is something that Boxer did not want to do, and he was very ashamed of it. Boxer had no intention of killing anyone and he is realizing that this rebellion is not for him not matter how much he wanted to change from being a slave. He was pressured into fighting because he is the biggest and the strongest and that is the rulers taking advantage of their power over the animals.
This quote represents that the animals are
working themselves to death because Napoleon is ordering them too. Their rations
August Napoleon announced
that there would be work on Sunday afternoons as well. This work was strictly voluntary, but any animal who absented himself from it would have his rations reduced by half. 5. Narrator
His two slogans, "I will work
harder" and "Napoleon is always right," seemed to him a sufficient answer to all problems.
6. Narrator
One Sunday morning, when
the animals assembled to receive their orders, Napoleon announced that he had decided upon a new policy. From now onwards Animal Farm would engage in trade with the neighbouring farms:

It was also more suited to the
dignity of the Leader (for of late he had taken to speaking of Napoleon under the title of "Leader") to live in a house than in a mere sty. The rule was against sheets, which are a human invention. We have removed the sheets from the farmhouse beds, and sleep between blankets. And very comfortable beds they are too! But not more comfortable than we need, I can tell you, comrades, with all the brainwork we have to do nowadays. You would not rob us of our repose, would you,

are reduced by half and the more they work
the weaker they will get and the less efficient their work will be resulting in more time before they become completely independent from their so called enemies and that is the only goal they realistically all have in common. The other animals are being so manipulated by Napoleon and are not making rational decisions and will eventually work themselves to death. This is showing Napoleon rising in power. He is producing these slogans to nearly brain wash the animals to believe that he is always rightAlmost like a god, or a king which directly reminds me of the Russians which this novella is related too and it ties in the Dictatorship and how he wants and will rule all. Napoleon is nearly trying to brainwash the animals into only believing him and following him. This quote is just another representation that the animals are following Napoleons rules instead of producing their own ideas for what will help the farm become independent from the humans. The animals lining up in the morning to receive their duties reminds me of the Nazi concentration camps and how they get their orders, they work all day, and barely get any food and are not treated completely fairly. This quote represents to me that every animal is basically bowing down to Napoleon, giving him the entire house to himself instead of him living on the ground like the rest of the animals. The animals see Napoleon as almost holy, and the person they give every sacrifice to. This quote is basically trying to convince the other animals they are in the wrong and misunderstood the commandment to start with which had to of been changed at some time. The pig is comvincing them that they have to have the most comfortable beds in the house to be able to properly carry out the duties that they have. This quote is also telling the animals that they are the most superior because they consider themselves the brains of the farm and that the deserve that best that they can get because they supposedly do so much for the farm when in reality the hard-working animals do the most for the farm.

comrades? You would not have
us too tired to carry out our duties? Surely none of you wishes to see Jones back?" "Comrades," he said quietly, "do you know who is responsible for this? Do you know the enemy who has come in the night and overthrown our windmill? SNOWBALL!" he suddenly roared in a voice of thunder. "Snowball has done this thing! In sheer malignity, thinking to set back our plans and avenge himself for his ignominious expulsion, this traitor has crept here under cover of night and destroyed our work of nearly a year. Comrades, here and now I pronounce the death sentence upon Snowball. Starvation seemed to stare them in the face.
This was the very first obvious remark as the
dictator Napoleon was becoming and rather quickly at that. The destruction of the windmill was hardly Snowballs fault because he did what he could for an animal who could not stand on his hind legs. Napoleon was offering a full bushel to any animal to captured Snowball alive knowing that a bushel would be hard for anyone to ignore. This shows that whatever Napoleon, the dictator, says was always right and everyone had to believe it was true with no hesitation. The animal did not want to believe that Snowball was quality of such an action but felt compelled to believe. Napoleon knew that Snowball did not purposely destroy the windmill like he himself worked very hard on and this shows that he does not have the animals best interest and that is a treat all leaders should have, and hardly a leader Napoleon was at that. This quote represents that Napoleons pride got in the way and the animals were actually working themselves to death on Napoleons orders. Napoleon ordered that the animals work continuously on the windmill to get it up again and make sure nothing will destroy it again because he did not want the human laughing at his failure.
