MIS Assignment-I: Group Members: Waseem Ur Rehman Mohsin Khan Alishba Kaiser
The document discusses the inputs, processing, and outputs of UPS's package tracking system. The inputs include barcoded package labels containing sender and destination information, driver handheld devices that receive delivery routes and capture signatures, and package location data. This input data is transmitted to UPS's computer network for storage and processing. The data is stored and organized to allow package tracking by customer, date, driver and other criteria. The outputs include pickup/delivery times, in-transit locations, recipient information, and reports for customers, drivers, routes and management.

What are the inputs, processing and outputs of UPS's
Package tracking system? Inputs: Scannable bar-coded labels attached to the package, which contain detailed information about the sender, the destination, and when the package should arrive UPS drivers own a DIAD, which can access a wireless cell phone network on which as soon as the driver logs on, his or her days route is downloaded onto the handheld. The DIAD also automatically captures customers signatures along with pickup and delivery information. Package tracking information is then transmitted to UPSs computer network for storage and processing. UPS can monitor and even re-route packages throughout the delivery process
Inputs: The inputs include package information, customer
signature, pickup, delivery, time-card data, current location (while en route), and billing and customer clearance documentation. Processing: The data are transmitted to a central computer and stored for retrieval. Data are also reorganized so that they can be tracked by customer account, date, driver, and other criteria such as the consolidation of orders for efficient final delivery of packages. Outputs: The outputs include pickup and delivery times, location while en route, and package recipient. The outputs also include various reports, such as all packages for a specific account or a specific driver or route, as well as summary reports for management.
