Social, Economic, and
Environmental Justice

Behavior 1
Apply understanding of social, economic, and
environmental justice to advocate for human
rights at the individual and system levels
Guardian ad Litem Application:
Serve as an advocate for all children; ensure all have a
voice in court
GALs serve as facilitators and advocates to ensure that
the children are financially cared for, and have some
level of economic success.

Behavior 2
Engage in practices that advance social,
economic and environmental justice
GALs listen intently to the children for which they are

advocating on their behalf, and seek to ensure they have


access to a healthy and safe environment.
If a child is falling behind in his or her studies, a GAL
may suggest an individual education plan be
implemented.
If a child does not have access to clean water or air, the
GAL may recommend new housing or a home free of
smoke or environmental hazards.
