Chapter 2

This study will survey 60 students from Meycauyan College to understand their sexual attitudes and behaviors. 30 female students from education and arts programs and 30 male students from business programs will be purposively selected for the study. A team of senior psychology students will help administer surveys containing questions about personal characteristics, sexual attitudes using a 15 item scale, and sexual behaviors using a 15 item inventory. Both scales will use a modified Likert scale to analyze responses. The data will then be analyzed using statistical software to understand trends in sexual attitudes and behaviors of students.

Methodolgy of Research

Sources of Data and Research Setting


This study will be conducted on Meycauyan College, school year 2014-2015. The target
participants are 30 female from Area of Education, Arts and Sciences and 30 male students from Area
of Business and Accountancy. The respondents of this are chosen based on their knowledge and moral
value, because as a Education and Psychology students (courses that is covered by the Area of
Education, Arts and Sciences) they are expected to be high in knowledge and to be a good archetype to
the youth.
Area of Business and Accountancy male students are chosen because researchers are expected
randomizes perception on this group. The researchers will be using Purposive Sampling Technique,
because respondents are chosen according to the purpose of the study.

Data Gathering Procedure


A team of senior psychology students enrolled in their Research I course will assist during the
gathering and tabulation of data. Data will be analyzed using statistical software. Frequency and
percentage will be calculated to draw a descriptive profile on the personal, the sexual attitude, and the
sexual behavior of Meycauayan College students.
This study employed a descriptive survey method. It consists of the following parts: (1) the
participants personal characteristics [gender, age, year level and religion]. (2) 15-item Sexual Attitude
Scale; and (3) 15-item Sexual Behavior Inventory. A modified Likert Scale will be used for both the

sexual attitude and sexual behavior. Responses to the sexual attitude items ranged from 1 (strongly
disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). A five- point response format was also employed for each of the sexual
behavior indicators: 1 (No. I have not done it, and will never do it); 2 (No I have not done it, but I am
open to doing it); 3 (Yes, I have done it only once); 4 (Yes, I have done it a few number of times); 5
(Yes, I have done it frequently/many times).

The instrument was self-administering and contains

instructions for responding. However, verbal instruction will be provided during the actual survey.
