Analysis
Taylors Creek Elementary Media Centers budget for the 2016-2017 school year totals
$9700.00. The allocation for printed media is $7400.00 and the media supply budget is
$1300.00. The supply budget includes materials for fixing damaged books and color printer
cartridges. Title I provides $1000.00 to fund the Book Nook staff. Book Nook allows the library
to stay open on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 5:00p.m. to check books out to families, monitor
computer use, and give homework help.

According to SLJs 2014 Spending Survey: Savvy Librarians Are Doing More with
Less, most elementary libraries designate around $8.80 per patron on books (Barack, 2014).
Taylors Creek Library funds are sufficient for this, spending around $9.38 on each of its 694
stakeholders. While the budget is adequate for printed media, more funds will be necessary to
make the library more accessible and appealing to stakeholders. These goals are detailed in
Section VII of this report.
Because monies will be required for decor and construction, fundraising will be the key
to Taylors Creek Librarys success. The current fundraising technique that is implemented twice
a year is the Scholastic Book Fair. Profits depend on how many books are sold, but the funds are
limited to purchasing items in the Scholastic Dollars Catalogue. Some cash-based fundraising
considerations are:

Selling popsicles, snacks, and bottled water during recess

Lunch on the Lawn- students pay $2.00 to eat lunch with their friends outside

Pennies for Pies- students bring as many pennies as possible and the student with the
most pennies gets to pie the principal

A series of $1.00 events such as hat day, sock day, or crazy hair day

School Store- sell school supplies

Yard sale with donated items

Polar Express Day- students pay $2.00 to watch The Polar Express in pajamas
