Black screen How-To-Video: Using Celtx No audio present
and its benefits fades into the frame in bold white font. Title fades away and shot then fades to screen recording of word processing software open, with someone working on a script. This cuts between other screen recordings of the Celtx website with an example script open aswell.
Light background music starts playing with medium
volume. Voice over begins moments later. Hello and welcome to my tutorial video on how to use Celtx and its benefits. We will be discussing how it compares to other word processing software, in terms of creating professional film scripts.
Screen fades to black, title What is Celtx? Both voiceover and music audio cuts out. fades onto the screen. Crossfade to screen recording of web browser and log on to Celtx .
Music and voiceover enters.
Celtx is a free to use, online word processing software that is set up to speed the process of creating scripts for film. It does so by using automatic formatting tools for the text and layout.
Screen fades to black, then title Features
of Celtx fades onto centre frame.
Voiceover and music fade out
A screen recording shows the user
selecting the Edit Title Page function.
Music and audio enters again. There are many
features of Celtx that make it a useful tool in the script-writers pallet. Firstly, by selecting the edit title page button, Celtx automatically creates a correctly formatted and good looking title page for your script, by the user simply filling in 6 or less boxes of info. This can be seen in A4 format by clicking the print/pdf button.
Fade to a screen recording of a user
selecting text and applying the dialogue, action, scene heading and character options to different sets of text.
The main feature of Celtx is that it has automatic
text formatting for particular parts of the script. Firstly, you can highlight the scene heading, and it will automatically change the text to all caps and to the correct font. As well as this, action can be selected to return any text to left aligned and standard font. Finally, the most useful part is the character and dialogue selections. Where it will place the characters name central and the dialogue centred below with no extra spacing and a limited width. Celtx will also save character names and automatically change the format from character and dialogue by pressing enter; which is very useful as it saves time and makes the script writing process more fluid and efficient.
The shot cuts back to the word processing
software, with a user applying the same details and options to their text in the script.
To do this in normal word processing software, it
is much more time constraining and requires you to constantly change the alignment of text. But this can also cause spacing issues that need to be manually adjusted, therefore taking up even more time

Fade to another screen recording of the
Celtx software. The parenthetical feature is being used on some text.
Another useful feature of Celtx, is that a
parenthetical (or dialogue direction) can also be automatically formatted into closed brackets and spaced directly above the dialogue. This can be done by simply highlighting the text and clicking the parenthtical button on the auto format toolbar. Also any scene transitions i.e. fade in, dissolve in etc. can be formatted to the top right corner of the page by highlighting and selecting the transition format.
Fade to black. Title A Negative of Celtx
enters. A clip of word processing software Pages is shown, with the user highlighting text in different colours.
Voiceover and music fades, then re-enters as next
clip is shown. Although Celtx is very good for fast script writing, it does not have as in depth customisation of text format as other word processing softwares . So highlighting your props, characters, scene settings etc can only be done after print, whereas on programs like pages, it can be done within the document.
