The students conducted an experiment to determine which variable would allow sweet pea plants to grow the fastest: fertilizer, coffee grounds, club soda, or a control with no additives. PURPOSE(THISISOBSERVATIONandQUESTION):
Wonderinghowtogrowplantsfaster,wenoticedthattherearelotsofvariables
thatcanaffectthegrowthofplantsonthe
stimulation
sowethoughtofsomeother
variablesthatcouldmakeplantsgrowinashorteramountoftime.Webeganto
researchandfoundsomefactorsthatcouldbenefitthegrowthofplantsandhadsome
backgroundknowledgeonhowcoffeebeansandfertilizerarepackedwithnutrients.

HYPOTHESIS:
IfweplantedfourseedsofSweetPeaflowers,(oneofthemarefertilized,
anotheronewaswithcoffeegrounds,thethirdseedwaswateredwithclubsodaand
thelastonewasoutcontrol)thenwethinkthattheonewithcoffeegroundswillgrow
first,thefertilizedseedstogrowsecond,theonewateredwithclubsodathird,andthe
controltogrowtheslowestbecausefertilizerandcoffeegroundshavetonsofnutrients
inthemandthatsupportsthegrowthoflivingthings.

EXPERIMENT/PROCEDURES:
1. Takeapinchofseedsandplaceditinthedirt
2. Wateriteverydaywith10mLofwaterandwatertheclubsodaonewith
10mLofclubsoda.
3. Measuretheplantswitharuler
4. Iftheplantstartstogrowtootallandstarttocollaspe,useawireandtieit
toastick.

RESULTS/DATA:
Atfirst,whenweplantedtheseedsonthe28thofFeburary,theplantsdidnt
managetogrowandsproutuntiltheMarch7th.Onlytheseedthatwaswateredwith
clubsodagrewbyitselfuntilthe9thofMarch,whentheseedwithcoffeegrounds
startedtogrow.Theykeptgrowinguntilwestoppedkeepingtrackofthemeasurements
onMarch17th.

Thegraphshowshowmuchfoursweetpeaplantsgrew.Theplantwiththeclub
sodagrewthehighestandtheonewiththecoffeegroundswastheonethatgrewthe
secondhighest.Theonewithfertilizerandcontrolsdidnotmanagegrowatall.

CONCLUSION:
Weplanted4seedsofsweetpeasandchangedthevariablesfor3ofthem.We
wateredandmeasuredthefourplantsalmosteveryday.Wethoughtthattheonewith
fertilizerwouldgrowthefastestandtallestbutaccordingtoourobservationsanddata,
theplantwithclubsodagrewthetallestintheshortestamountoftime.Welearnedthat
clubsodaismoreeffectivetoaplantsgrowththanfertilizerandcoffeegrounds.Club
sodaismostlymadeofcarbondioxideandplantsneedcarbondioxidetogrowanddo
photosynthesis.Wethinkthatitwasnotacompletelyfairtestbecausewewere

carelesssometimesandwateredalittlemoreorlessthan10mLaday.Somethingwe
tookawayfromthisandsomethingwecoulduseinreallifeisthattherearemanyways
andopportunitiestothepathofsucessandsomemighttakeshorterthanothersbut
thatdoesn'tmeanweshouldbeenviousandjelousoftheirgoodfortunebecauseinthe
end,wecouldallbebeautifulandhappyplants.Wewonderedwhyourplantwith
fertilizerandwhyourcontrolplantdidn'tgrowyet.Wealsolearnedthatifyouwantedto
growsomeplantsathomethenyoucanputclubsodaandcoffeegroundsinitsothey
growfaster.Andfinally,wewonderedifthesevariablesgivethesameresultsonother
typesofplantsinsteadofsweetpeaflowerstoo.
