Comparative & Superlative Card Game
This engaging card game helps to teach students how to make comparative and superlative
sentences using a range of adjectives.
Before class, make one copy of the cards for each group of three or four. Cut as indicated
and keep the topic cards and adjective cards separate.
Procedure
Put the students into small groups of three or four, and give each group the two sets of
cards.
Tell the students to place the topic cards face up on the desk, and to shuffle the adjective
cards and put them face down in a pile.
Students take it in turns to choose a topic and then pick up an adjective card.
The student then has to make a comparative or superlative sentence using the adjective on
the card. The sentence must be related to the topic.
Students receive one point for each grammatically correct sentence.
If a student cannot make a sentence, the card goes to the next player and they try to make a
sentence for two points.
Play until all the cards have been used.
The student with the highest score at the end of the game is the winner.
