Carrollton City Schools

The Carrollton City School


System is one of only 21
city school districts in
Georgia and one of the
oldest. Established in
1886, the district
celebrated its
quasquicentennial, or
125th birthday, in 2011.
The 2013-2014 school
year ended with an
enrollment exceeding the
4,800 mark.

Carrollton Middle School


Serving grades 4-6

Carrollton Middle School opened its doors for


the first time in the 2005-2006 school year
and served fourth and fifth grades before the
addition of sixth grade in 2012-2013.

Carrollton Middle School has been identified


as a Focus Title I School due to a gap
between the highest and lowest performing
subgroups.

Assessment data was compiled from the


2010-2011 Criterion Referenced Competency
Test, the Criterion Referenced Competency
Test - Modified and the Georgia Alternate
Assessment which identified an unacceptable
achievement gap between our White
subgroup and the Students with Disabilities
subgroup.

Purpose

The purpose of this Data Overview is to analyze data from


multiple data sources such that include State Assessments
and student demographics in order to improve student
learning at the school level.

The schools Data Team can use data to measure


meaningful progress towards the realization of our schools
vision by analyzing the current data, looking over the
previous three years data, and coming up with an action
plan that addresses the learner problem, and how to fix it.

A Data Team will identify strengths of learning and


obstacles to student learning derived from this data.

Demographics
In the 2013-2014 school year, Carrollton Middle School s
current student population of 1210 students is of a
diverse background.

Black, 16% Hispanic, <1% each of Asian, American Indian or

These numbers are in relation to the 2013-2014 student
population of 1210 students. There is a high percentage of
56% of economically disadvantaged students, as well as 13%
of the student population being Students with disabilities.

Carrollton Middle School is growing in great numbers.


Opening in 2006-2007, the student population has doubled
in size. In 2012-2013, an additional grade was added to
the student population which accounts for the large influx
of students. However from 2006-2011 the population had
grown by139 students.

CRCT Highlights

4th grade
6% DNM in reading while 53% exceeded. This is a 1%

increase in DNM and 1% decrease in exceeded from


2013. Compare to 2012 with 9% DNM in reading and
46% exceeds.
12% DNM in language and a decrease from 39% to a
37% exceeded from the 2013 year.
10% DNM in math and 43% exceeded. Compare to
2013 with 15% DNM and 39% exceeded.
16% DNM in science with 45% exceeded. Scores have
decreased in the exceeded range for 3 years.
14% DNM in social studies and 40% exceeds. Compare
to two years ago- 2012- 22% DNM and 25% exceeds.

Academics- Reading
In the pass three years, from 2012-2014, there has been a decrease
in DNM in reading. Carrollton Middle School has outscored the State
in meeting and exceeding. Reading is a strength at all grade levels
in regards to meeting and exceeding and low numbers of DNM.

In the pass three years, from 2012-2014, there has been a
consistency in the scores in Language Arts. Carrollton Middle
School has outscored the State in meeting and exceeding . There
was a slight increase in DNM on the 2014 school year for the 4 th
and 5th grade. There was also a slight decrease in exceeding in
both
exceeded language.

In the pass three years, from 2012-2014, there has been some
movement in scores in Math. In the 2013 school year, there was a
significant decrease in Exceeding in the 6th grade. From 2013-2014
there is much movement in the Exceeding category. 92% of
students met or exceeded math.

In the pass three years, from 2012-2014, there have some
decreases in exceeded scores in science. In the 6th grade year,
there is a significant decrease in exceeded and increase in DNM. 6 th
grade Science is a weakness in the school. 81% of students met or
exceeded in science.

In the pass three years, from 2012-2014, there has been steady
movement of exceeding scores in social studies. There has also
been a decrease in DNM. In the 2013 school year, there was a
significant decrease in Exceeding in the 6th grade. From 2013-2014
there is much movement in the Exceeding category. 84% of

different times, there is a marked
difference in scores compared to

more in Social Stdues and Science than any other category.

Summary

Due to the ongoing increase in student


population, as well as an increase in
economically disadvantaged students,
it is imperative we meet the needs of
these students. There is a large
number of Students with Disabilities in
the school. Many of these student are
performing in reading, language, and
math, however, are not performing as
well in science and social studies.

Research-based instructional strategies will


be implemented that will best address the
student learning problem based on the above
findings.

At the grade or content level, curriculum


teachers will reconvene to analyze the
effectiveness of the instructional strategies
selected and implemented, by examining
student performance data that is measured
using common assessments.
