Proposal for the United Nations Celebration


Theme: Healthy Soils for a Healthy Life

The main aim of the IYS 2015 is to increase awareness and understanding of the
importance of soil for food security and essential ecosystem functions. Specifically, its
objectives are to:
1. Raise full awareness among civil society and decision makers about the profound importance
of soil for human life;
2. Educate the public about the crucial role that soil plays in food security, climate change
adaptation and mitigation, essential ecosystem services, poverty alleviation and sustainable
development; and
3. Promote investment in sustainable soil management activities to develop and advocate for
rapid capacity enhancement for soil information collection and monitoring at the global,
regional and national levels.
ACTIVITIES
All levels (preschool to grade 2)
Little farmers: Each student will plant a seed of fruits or vegetables in a
recycled pot made of 1.5 plastic bottles.

Preschool: plant pechay in a plant box
Flag coloring (grade 1 and 2)
Film viewing
Using 3Rs (reuse, recycle, reduce)
Important of planting
Taking care of our soils or land.

CULMINATING PROGRAM
Grade 1 and 2
Every pupil is required to wear improvised national costume of different nations
and make a flag that he/she represents. ( during the trick or treat celebration)
Parade of all levels.
PRIZES:
Certificates for all the winners.
