Dab20702 Bab 2 Part 1

This document discusses pad footing design and construction. It covers bearing capacity analysis and failure modes including general shear failure, local shear failure, and punching shear failure depending on soil conditions. It also discusses factors that influence ultimate bearing capacity in cohesive soils including the Nc, Nq, and Nγ bearing capacity factors. Finally, it addresses the effect of the water table on bearing capacity.

Plastic Analysis Of Bearing Capacity (Terzaghi

Allowable bearing capacity (qa)

The allowable bearing capacity , qa is the loading per unit area that
the soil is able to support without unsafe movement,

Where:
qa = allowable bearing capacity
qult = ultimate bearing capacity
FS = safety factor

Ultimate bearing capacity in cohesive soil

(qult)
The basic principle in evaluating the bearing capacity of cohesive
soil (clayey) soil is bast instroduced by Terzaghi (Terzaghi and
Peck,1967).
