This document discusses confidence intervals calculated from sample data. It finds: 1) A 99% confidence interval of 0.163 to 0.215 for the true proportion of yellow candies based on a sample with 1670 total candies and 315 yellow candies. 2) A 95% confidence interval of 58.93 to 60.27 for the mean total number of candies per bag based on a sample of 28 bags averaging 59.6 candies with a standard deviation of 1.75. 3) A 98% confidence interval of 1.33 to 2.53 for the true population standard deviation based on the same sample of 28 bags.

Term Project Part 5

A confidence level is a range of values to estimate the true value of a
population parameter.

n: 1670
x:315
p-hat: .189
za/2: 2.575
E: 2.7575(.010)= .026

.189(1-.189)/1670= .010
.189 = +/- .026= (.163, .215)

We are 99% confident that the true proportion of yellow candies is within
the confidence interval, which is between .163 and .215.

I had 10 yellow candies in my bag out of a total of 60. That is about .17 and
since that falls within the confidence interval it is a likely value.

n:28
s: 1.75
E: 2.052 (1.75/28)=.679

59.6 +/- .679= (58.92, 60.28)

We are 95% confident that the population mean for the total number candies
per bag is between 58.93 and 60.27

The total number of candies in my bag was 60, which falls within the
confidence interval.

n: 28
s: 1.75
98% CI

27 (1.75)^2/46 < o < 27 (1.75)^2/12.879
(1.33, 2.53)

We are 98% confident that the true population standard deviation is
between 1.33 and 2.53
