What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?

How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?

Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative; narrative;
impressionist; surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)

The style I will try to portray throughout my music video will link to realism, I have
chosen this style as it is commonly used throughout all music videos from this genre,
whether it displays their notorious criminal activities, their large parties or their urban
surroundings. My video will also be a pastiche of the highly successful music video
called shutdown by the genres leading musician skepta.
Costume
Costumes used `in my video will link to the genre featuring well known branded
clothing such as Nike, Adidas, Stone island and The North Face.
The colour scheme will be either dark colours such as grey black and navy blue
however white will be accepted. The clothing worn by the actors must link to urban
fashion styles such as tracksuits trainers and hoodies.
Lighting
The locations I have chosen will be well lit due to the natural lighting provided by the
outdoors however if I choose to film half of the film in the dark Ill have to include
powerful external lights such as flood lights and direct torches

Locations
I have chosen to use a local car park and urban area in maidenhead to link to the
realist theme used throughout grime videos showing their natural surroundings.

Shot types
To begin the video I will include establishing shots and birds eye view angles to
display the location, Ill use wide shots to display the cast and close ups to show each
character and will follow the main character with the camera walking through his area

Research
What music videos have you watched to research your genre?
I have specifically looked as music videos created by the main leaders in the genre
such as skepta and jme who are signed by major labels allowing them to have a large
disposable budget to spend on their videos.
From my research I have been able to work out that successful grime music videos
link to realism displaying their usual surroundings, problems they face and actives
they perform. They like to highlight how they have left their old lifestyles to join a the
high calibre group of successful musicians displaying their capital assets

How have these videos influenced the decisions made? Include screen shots of the key
influences

I have specifically looked at skeptas shutdown music video and the original music
video and will attempt to mix the two together highlighting fashion choices and
surrounds.

They highlight big brands and icon fashion choices

The surroundings are constantly shown in most scenes showing their music
comes from urban orientatioins

Grind when it's hot and I grind when it's cold
If I've got a bar then I write on my phone

No chat, that's how I get down on the road

Angry but I can't let that show

This ain't a game like tic-tac-toe
I've got a broken phone
It's wack and the replies are slow
New Era cap, no, nah, it's not a joke
Think before you stare in my boat (don't look)
Nah, you don't want a problem, bro
Let man slide but maybe I won't
And you don't wanna push me, oh to the no
More time pissed off cause I ain't got dough

Meaning of the song

Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?

The song links to the unique urban language used by youths in London it also
explains the lifestyle they have to live in these areas.
They lyrics do not follow a story and can by quite hard to understand by those who
dont understand this genre however it appeals to those from urban suburbs who use
this choice of language frequently

How will your visuals relate to the song? (Illustrate, Amplify or Disjuncture)

Ill use diverse camera angles to display the background and will use close ups to
amplify the fashion aspect of this genre.
Lighting will be used to show how there are two sides to this negatively displayed
opinion of urban areas , bright lit scenes will link to the casual good side to these
grime influenced youths dark scenes will show the negative opinion on them with
costumes featuring hoods and dark clothing .

target audience and genre of music
