The Crawdad Song, Color

The poem is about a couple going fishing for crawdads in a creek. The speaker offers to get a fishing pole if their partner gets the fishing line, so they can catch crawdads together in the creek. It then describes a man coming along with a pack, having filled it with crawdads caught from the creek. The final verse asks what they will do when the creek runs dry, suggesting they will have to sit and watch the crawdads die.
