Machine Elements Design (65450) Course Project: Project Implementation Guide Lines: Instructor

The document provides guidelines for a course project on machine elements design. Students will work in groups of 5 to select a mechanical system, document its function and components through CAD drawings, analyze the loads on key elements, and present their findings in a report and 10 minute presentation which is due on April 28, 2016.

Machine Elements Design (65450)

Course Project
Project Implementation Guide Lines:
Instructor: Dr. Ahmad Ramahi
1- Students are to work in groups; each group consists of 5 students.
2- Each group has to select a simple mechanical system; then do the following:
a- Describe the function of the system (what does the system used for?).
b- Show detailed assembly drawing of the system using AutoCAD or any
appropriate software. The drawings have to show all necessary
dimensions.
c- Identify each machine element in the system and explain its function
(What is its role in the system?), show the names of these machine
elements on your drawings in part (b).
d- Estimate the working loads/power of the system when working at full load.
e- Select at least three machine elements of the ones identified in part (c);
then make the necessary detailed analysis to examine their safety under
full load working conditions. Of course you need to specify their material
first.
f- Alternatively, instead of making analysis as indicated in part (e); you may
choose to design the selected machine elements by calculating their
dimensions which are necessary for safe functionality.
3- Each group has to submit a professional report that presents their findings.
4- Each group is requested to present their findings in a 10 minutes wellprepared presentation.
5- Submission date: Thursday 28/4/2016
Good Luck
