Content Standards:
Theme- World Studies from 750 B.C. to 1600 A.D.: Ancient Greece to the First Global Age
Strand- History
Topic- First Global Age
Content Statement- European economic and cultural influence dramatically increased through
explorations, conquests and colonization.
Learning Objectives:
Students being able to tell which European country had the greatest influence with 80% accuracy
Students being able to answer questions to the Educational game with 75% accuracy
Students being able to talk and tell about European influences around the world
Academic Language (or A.L. Demands, A.L. Objectives): Vocabulary words to know- Colonization,
Territories, Mercantilism, New World, and New Netherland. We will go over vocab words and
provide definitions.
Instructional Materials and Support:
A projector and screen, computer, and PowerPoint.
Prior Knowledge: What they were taught the previous year or what they know for themselves.

Assessments:

Pre-Assessment for the unit: Discuss the students prior knowledge about European countries and
their impact on colonialized countries.

Post-Assessment for the unit: Game played at end to understand how much each student was
able to remember, and to see how well they can come up with own ideas

Strategies & Learning Tasks


Introduction: open with with a series of questions such as, does anyone know what colonization
is? Or which European countries do you know colonized?

Presentation/Explicit Instruction: once series of questions is done, will being giving information
about colonization and which countries colonized where. This will be done with the help of a
visual aid such as a slide show or pictures of a map showing which countries colonized what
parts of the world
Structured Practice/Exploration: the structured practice also know as the I Do type of work will be
when going over the information. Also showing and explaining the pictures or slide show will be
my part of the lesson.
Guided Practice/Specific Feedback : when going over the material in the slide show i will ask questions
for the students to ask so it will be me opening discussion and them answering the questions ive asked.
Independent Practice/Application: the assessment and independent practice will be the students
playing a game. The game will be very similar to jeopardy and it will be team based if there are
enough students. The questions will be about the information learned and about how colonized
where or what happened during the colonization.
Closure: we will close the lesson by doing a quick recap of all the information learned and by
asking questions about who colonized where.
Differentiation, Individualized Instruction, and Assessment: we will differentiate by having
different types of ways to learn we will have a visual aid for visual learners, we will give a lecture
for those who learn better by learning, and we will play a game that is hands on for hands on
learners.
