Abstract
You would think, just because African-Americans make up a small portion of the U.S
population, blacks would not be able to cause much problems in the U.S. That's not the
case, the reality of the situation is that blacks cause a lot of violence within their
discourse communities. This is nothing new; the media has been reporting the situation
for years. The age group that causes these crimes ranges from the adult age group to
teens. Surveys and other statistical websites will be used to show the percentages of
the situations within the communities.
Crime in the black community is a huge problem considering the fact that
African-Americans only make up a small portion of the U.S population. The reasoning
for conducting this research is to be able to find out more information that could be vital
for or in most cases shocking. Finding out one the common reasoning as to why so
much crimes occurs within these black communities will be the main object of the
literature review. Most in which are from gang related activities based on the survey I
conducted. Family issues also play a role into effect in why most African-American
males are committing crimes. These crimes can vary based on the locations within the
U.S. Chicago is known for having one of the biggest black on black crimes in the world.
Crime in black communities is always seen or heard on the news but it's time to get
down to heart of the problem. Many men, women, and children are taken out so I will be
asking the following questions as to raising awareness of the actions being taken in
theses communities:
What types of crimes occurs in the black community?
How often does crime occur in the black community?
What is the targeted age group that causes the most crimes?
How has crime in the black communities change over the course of time?
Crime is shown throughout media year by which means that there must have been
certain situations that started off in the past. Research will be conducted to give a
general overview of crime rate, the way crime is conducted, and what is happening to
African-Americans status in the U.S.
This graph is one of the major questions asked in order to find out why blacks are
influenced to commit crimes. Chances are blacks are experiencing major problems
within their which generates a cycle of violence for the next generation.
What is the targeted age group that causes the most crime?
To start this research off it would be good to see the type of people who
committing these crimes and why. The results are quite shocking considering this is
messing up their future. The age group that causes the most crime ages from
adolescent, teen to adults. To be exact age 15-24 is the targeted age group that causes
the most crime (sagepub.com). This is Very crucial because many of theses young
African-Americans are not making the most out of the time the got. The possibilities of
this can lead into not being able to find jobs, not being able to get into institutions of
higher education, possibly end up in jail, or dead. More particularly, black male are
committing crimes due to the fact that they are not looking up to the right people or they
dont have the proper role models. The probability of the teen growing up without a
father will could cause them to find an actual role model not knowing if they could have
a positive effect. This ties into the survey I conducted in which I asked what was the
bigger problem in crime in the black communities, just little under a half people said that
family issues was that cause. There are others saying that the role model of their
generation are people who are criminals as well as drug dealers. Lots of gang violence
are another probable cause because based on the survey gang violence are the biggest
violence in the black community. This also proves to show that people in the gang are
the role models. This allows young black males to get recruited into gangs, which
causes a cycle.
which also plays role of giving ideals of what types of crimes should occur or in other
words, what's new for African- Americans to try out that could end up being illegal for
them to do.
How often does crime occur in the black community?
There are about 12.8% of blacks in the U.S population and the number of crimes
that occurs in the U.S for African-Americans are undeniable in the
U.S(eds.a.ebscohost.com). That alone could make others races to consider AfricanAmericans a threat to this country. This is why the media or other sources such as
news, magazines, newspaper or other sources portray the image of African- Americans
in negative ways. Based on data when compared to whites, black are more than likely
to face more severe charges. For most crimes, blacks face more arrest charge and are
less likely to be cleared when compared to whites (eds.a.ebscohost). Based on the data
that's being presented, racial discrimination is really huge.
How has crime in the black community changed over the course of time?
With more resources becoming available, there is the probability of crimes
becoming more and more easy and dangerous for people to commit. There was once a
point in time where Africans- Americans had no form of expanding their will due to the
fact they were slaves. As time moved on African- Americans were gaining more freedom
than what they were used to. The first Ten Commandments, which include freedom of
speech and right to bare arm, were just the beginning of something that lead to another.
March 3rd, an African-American man named Rodney King who was accused by four
white officers for speeding in which he did. Rodney was severely beaten by the four
police officers that were caught on film. The officers did not receive any punishment
whatsoever which led to a huge riot in L.A caused by Africans-Americans who wanted to
fight for Rodneys honor (southcentralHistory.com). History has shown that AfricanAmericans has always fought for one another and exercised their rights for their justice.
Crime in black communities hasnt changed much because this same concept follows
todays standard.
Conclusion
Crime in the black community a significant problem in the U.S. The way media
portray black can be a bad influence on upcoming African-American males in America
with all the other bad statistics. If nothing is being done to prevent the problems within
black communities, blacks will take aggression to the problems as history as shown.
