If students worked together, their strengths might complement

each other and allow them to finish more effectively and

efficiently.

Reflection Questions:
1. How will the teachers background impact what you might design or recommend?
Shes not very technology savvy. We will have to use a tool that is very easy to
navigate, and does not require a large amount of technological knowledge.

2. How will the students grade level impact what you might design or recommend?
Specifically, think about what the students will be able to do at this age.
They are freshman and sophomores in high school, they will be able to create a
website using an easy to follow software. Anything that they are unable to do will not be
required.

3. Keeping in mind your response to the previous question, what might students at
that grade level would have learned about this topic? Think about (or research) what
students at this grade level have already learned on the topic.
In her class she goes over in detail what they need to know and allows them to
do research on their own and they have assigned readings over the topic. Students will
have some basic knowledge of vitamins based on the lectures and assignments given
by the instructor.

4. If there are students with special needs, what accommodations might you need to
make?
Students can work in groups to make the workload less for the special needs
student. Most computer programs are easy to use, and the student could get help from
group members if needed.

5. How will the availability of technology impact what you might design or
recommend? For instance, iPads dont allow you to access websites that use Flash. Or
scheduled computer labs may require the teacher to reserve time in advance.
The students have laptops and netbooks available to them, so they can use
them in the classroom. Since they are using laptops, they should be able to access any
website or software. If a student does not bring their own device to school, they can
use a netbook or computer provided by the school

6. In terms of students common mistakes or topics theyve struggled with, think

about (or research) some potential ways of overcoming this problem.
Some students may not be advanced in technology, so we would find a website
or program that is easy to use and follow. If the students are working in groups, they

will have the help of their classmates as well if they get confused.

7. In terms of teachers needs or changes for the unit, what will you need to keep in
mind as you design/recommend your materials? (e.g., Teacher needs a group activity, I
need to think about tools that might help me group students).
Since the teacher is not very technologically savvy, something that is easy to
grade and follow will be important. Something that can involve all members of a group
would be good as well.

STEP II. Analyze the Learning Objectives

Standards

Students should learn the basic water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins

by creating a brochure about them.

a.
Learning Objectives
After this class, students will be able to:
Objective 1: Identify the difference between water-soluble and fatsoluble vitamins
Objective 2: Be able to accurately explain the difference between
water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins
Objective 3: Create a website using weebly summarizing the
difference between water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins
Objective 4: Students will present their finished website to the
class during a specified presentation period.

STEP III. Outline of Instructional Tasks

Instructional Tasks
(with estimated class time)

Learning
Objectives
addressed

Complete in class assignments (reading, notes, worksheets)

provided by instructor

#1, #2

Complete individual research regarding water soluble and fat

soluble vitamins using the internet or different resources.

#1, #2

Create a website using weebly within two days of the

assignment. Incorporate your knowledge of the water and fat
soluble vitamins. You will need to include an introduction page,
a page discussing water soluble vitamins and a page
discussing fat soluble vitamins.

#3

Present your website to the class in a 1-3 minute presentation

time slot to show what you have learned.

#4

Reflection Question:
1. How do these activities meet the learning objectives?
Task 1: By completing task 1, students will be able to have some background knowledge
regarding fat/water soluble vitamins.
Task 2: By completing task 2, students will be able to go off on their own and learn more about
soluble vitamins in order to complete their main task (website) to their best ability.
Task 3: To complete task three students will be working with a partner or in small groups to
create their own website. In doing such, students will be able to integrate what they have
learned into an informational website that discusses the differences between water and fat
soluble vitamins.
Task 4: Lastly, by completing task 4 students (partners/groups) will be presenting their website
to the class during a short presentation time. By doing so students will be able to reveal in full
what they have learned and present the knowledge they have attained during the duration of
this lesson plan in the form of their informational website.

2. Which learning objective(s) was(were) not strongly addressed by the

instructional tasks?
Learning Objectives #1 and #2 were not strongly addressed by the instructional tasks mainly
because these are simple tasks that the students will be assigned and expected to complete on
their own. Also learning objectives #1 and #2 will mostly be covered in class with the use of
notes, assigned readings and worksheets.

it is useful, etc.

Reflection Questions:
Which task was the most difficult one to address with appropriate technology options? And why?
Task #4: Present your website to the class in a 1-3 minute presentation time slot to show
what you have learned will be difficult to incorporate technology into, because it would be

difficult for students to present a website that they have created using a different technological
tool. The most efficient way would be to just have the website pulled up on a screen and explain
what is on it, or have students visit it themselves on their own device, rather than using another
tool or website to present it.

STEP V. Selected Options

1.
TASK: Complete in class assignments (reading, notes, worksheets) provided by instructor
SELECTED OPTION(s): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAfDoay9PvE
For task #1, why is/are this/these technology option(s) the best choice?
This is the best choice for this specific task because the video not only includes
information covered in class, but it also expands and goes into more depth. Plus, it includes
detailed pictures and illustrations as well that help clarify the concepts. If something needs to be
clarified or repeated, the student can pause or rewind the video as much as needed. Everything
is in one place in a six minute video, which is convenient so the student does not have to go and
search for each individual resource on their own.
2.
TASK: Complete individual research regarding water soluble and fat soluble vitamins using
the internet or different resources.
SELECTED OPTION(s): http://cysticfibrosis.about.com/od/cysticfibrosis101/f/vitamins.htm
For task #2, why is/are this/these technology option(s) the best choice?
This is a professional, reputable website, meaning all of the information is reliable and
good to include in a project. It includes a variety of information as well, not just a general
overview. At the beginning, the website gives a short explanation of the difference between
water soluble and fat soluble vitamins, and then gives specific facts about each different kind of
vitamin. There is an additional video on the page, as well as links to other sources that may be
useful as well.

3.
TASK: Create a website using weebly within two days of the assignment. Incorporate your
knowledge of the water and fat soluble vitamins. You will need to include an introduction page, a
page discussing water soluble vitamins and a page discussing fat soluble vitamins.
SELECTED OPTION(s): www.weebly.com
For task #3, why is/are this/these technology option(s) the best choice?
Weebly is an easy to follow way to create your own website. Rather than just creating a
paper brochure, this allows for much more information, and also allows the teacher and other
students to interact with the website by adding things like links, pictures, videos, etc. that would
not be available on just a paper brochure. Weebly is very easy to customize and make exactly
how you want, and does not require a ton of prior technological knowledge. This makes it the

best and easiest tool for creating a website.

4.
TASK: Present your website to the class in a 1-3 minute presentation time slot to show
what you have learned.
SELECTED OPTION(s): https://www.google.com/slides/about/
For task #X, why is/are this/these technology option(s) the best choice?
Google slides is a simple, basic tool that will make explaining key elements of the
website easily to the teacher and class. Since most of the presenting will be done by simply
looking at the website and explaining on your own, it is not necessary to have a complex slide
show for the presentation. A simple program like Google slides will make the project
presentation run the smoothest.
5.
Were there any considerations from Step 1 (e.g., teachers comfort level, student grade
level, subject area, students with special needs, student misconceptions/struggles, technology
accessibility) that you did not address in your choices? Please describe.
The few students with needs were not addressed very much in the lesson plan, but since
the students will be working in small groups, it will be very easy to integrate the students with
special needs, and make them a part of the project. If they ever need any help with their part of
the project, their group mates could assist them.

STEP VI: PROJECT ARTIFACTS PROPOSAL (300-500 words)

Instructional Tasks Summary

Dear Mrs. Tresslar,
On behalf of IU and our W200 class, we just want to say thank you for your
contribution. Thank you for sending us the information we needed and for taking the time out of
your busy schedule to lend us a hand. We greatly appreciate it! Below is our proposal on how we
believe you can integrate new forms of technology in your classroom for your water and fat
soluble vitamins lesson.
We propose that your students use the materials already available to them (laptops, and
netbooks) to create an online website using weebly, an interactive free website generator that is
easy to understand and manage. The purpose of this task is for the students to be able to
showcase their knowledge on fat and water soluble vitamins. Following is a step by step process
of the lesson we created.

The first step is to complete the in class assignments that have already been provided to
them (reading assignments, notes, and worksheets). These assignments will allow students to
achieve a base knowledge of the subject they are to research. Students will then proceed to watch
a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAfDoay9PvE ) on their laptops or netbooks. This
video will help further their knowledge of the subject and give them a better understanding of the
topic.
Students will then be able to do research of their own using the internet and different
resources. Students can check out this website (http://cysticfibrosis.about.com/od/cysticfibrosis101/f/vitamins.htm) to
get more scholarly information about their topic on water/fat soluble vitamins. All of the
provided websites will help students gain the additional knowledge necessary to complete their
website.
Once the students have had time to complete their research, they will then begin creating
their website using weebly (www.weebly.com). Students will have two days to complete their
assignment of creating a website. They are required to have an introduction tab, a water soluble
tab, and a fat soluble tab. By creating a website, they will be able to produce the knowledge they
have gained about fat and water soluble vitamins, while at the same time creating a website that
is engaging to its viewers.
The last step is for the students to present their website in a one to three minute time slot
to the class by using google slides (https://www.google.com/slides/about/). By completing these
steps, students will not only be able to produce a well organized and sufficient website, but they
will also be able to further their knowledge and understanding of the topic.
Again, thank you so much for sparing some time to fill out the forms and to read this
letter. We would love to hear any feedback or thoughts you may have based on our proposal.
Have a great rest of the school year and happy retirement!!
Best Wishes,
Kathryn Lutes

Artifact 1:Weebly Example presentation

Description: Before students create their own website using Weebly, it is necessary for the
teacher to demonstrate how to use Weebly by giving a brief presentation on how to use it. The
best way to do this is to create your own example website, and walk student through how to do
it. It will be necessary to start with a blank website, and then go through and demonstrate how

to add text, pictures, and widgets using the tools on the website sidebar. This should take about
10 minutes, as students may be unfamiliar with this new website.

Artifact 2: Google Slides tutorial

Description:Google slides is one of ways the students may present their website to the class.
The google slides tutorial should begin by the teacher starting a new blank project. From there,
it is necessary to show the students how to use the sidebar to change their theme, and use the
bar on the top of the page to do things like add text, add pictures, and change the layout of the
page. This should only last a few minutes as it is only a baseline to clear up any issues that
students may have with using this program.

Artifact 3: Quizlet
Description: Students will be able to further their knowledge of fat and water soluble
vitamins by using interactive flashcards on the website quizlet. The teacher will create
their own study set on quizlet and share it with their students. After creating their own
quizlet account or signing in to an already existing one, the teacher will be able to create
their own study flashcards for their students to view. To create a study set you simply
click on the button at the top of the screen on the quizlet website (www.quizlet.com).
You are then able to create multiple flashcards and add the answers to the questions.
Once the youre finished just click on the create button. You can share the link to your
quizlet with your students in class.
Artifact 4: Flickr
Description: Flickr is a website that students will be able to use to find photos that are
completely free to use (www.flickr.com). After signing up to Flickr, you are then given
your own account. You have the options to upload your own pictures and create your
own albums, but once you click on groups you can access thousands of free pictures
that are available for use. You could also click on the favorites tab and start exploring
Flickr to find even more photos. Once you have found a photo youre fond of just click
the download button at the bottom of the screen and save it to your computer. The
photo is then free for you to use on any website, powerpoint or document!
