Assignment On Mechanics

This document contains 5 problems about determining velocities and accelerations of objects in contact with rotating or moving objects. Problem 1 asks about the velocity and acceleration of a rod in contact with a rotating cam. Problem 2 asks about the velocity of a point on a cylinder rolling on a moving conveyor belt. Problem 3 asks about the angular velocity and velocity of a point on a rotating rod. Problem 4 asks about the angular acceleration of a gear in contact with a moving cable and rack. Problem 5 asks about the angular velocity and acceleration of a rod connected to a link with given angular velocity and acceleration.

Assignment 3

Unit IV

1. The end of rod R shown in Fig. maintains contact with the cam by means of a spring. If
the cam rotates about an axis passing through point O with an angular acceleration, a,
and angular velocity determine the velocity and acceleration of the rod when the cam is
in the arbitrary position u.

2. The cylinder shown in Fig. 1614a rolls without slipping on the surface of a conveyor
belt which is moving at . Determine the velocity of point A.The cylinder has a clockwise
angular velocity at the instant shown.

3. Determine the angular velocity of the rod and the velocity of point C at the instant
shown.

4. At the instant shown, cable AB has a velocity of 3 m/s and acceleration of 1.5 m/s2 while
the gear rack has a velocity of 1.5 m/s and acceleration of 0.75 m/s2. Determine the
angular acceleration of the gear at this instant.

5. At the instant q= 45o , link DC has an angular velocity of 4 rad/s and an angular
acceleration of 2 rad/s2. Determine the angular velocity and angular acceleration of rod
AB at this instant. The collar at C is pin connected to DC and slides freely along AB.
