6. List and explain 5 benefits that the pool has for the human body? (7 points)

Circle True or Flase

3. True or False - The body works harder on land than in the water, this is why running is better than
swimming for the body. (1 point)
4. True or False - The only way to get a good workout in the pool is to swim 200 laps of butterfly. (1 point)
5. True or False - Regardless of what Im doing in the pool, the water provides a low-impact environment
for my body to workout in. (1 point)

Swimming Quiz (
Answer Key
)
Name:

Date:

Score:

/ 20

1. List all four of the competitive swimming strokes. What is the most important part of every swimming
stroke and why? (5 points)
Competitive strokes: Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly, Breaststroke. Breathing is the most important part
of every stroke because if you don't breathe your respiratory system will not be able to supply oxygen to
the muscles and the muscles will become fatigued, this will prevent you from being able to swim.

2. How is life-long health affected by the pool? (5 points)

Life-long health can be positively affected by the pool. The pool provides a wide variety of activities for
individuals of all different interests to participate in such as swimming laps, water aerobics, and aerobic
games(volleyball, water polo, sharks and minnows).
3. True or
False
- The body works harder on land than in the water, this is why running is better than
swimming for the body. (1 point)
4. True or
False
- The only way to get a good workout in the pool is to swim 200 laps of butterfly. (1 point)
5.
True
or False - Regardless of what Im doing in the pool, the water provides a low-impact environment
for my body to workout in. (1 point)
6. List and explain 5 benefits that the pool has for the human body? (7 points)
1. Benefits heart - Keeps heart rate up while decreasing stress/strain on the body such as with
weight training.
2. Improves cardiovascular endurance - exercise in the pool requires aerobic capacity and thus the
heart and lungs must be able to deliver oxygen to the rest of the body.
3. Increases muscular endurance and strength - resistance of water is approximately 12 times that of
air resistance therefore muscles must work harder while in water to move.
4. Water provides a low-impact environment for the body meaning that it decreases pressure on
the joints.
5. The pool can improve flexibility because the water forces the body to move through the full range
of motion for each joint.
6. Swimming is a full body workout and constantly forces the body to use the core/abdominal
muscles - humans innately have weak core muscles.

Behavior Evaluation
This form will be completed by the teacher at the end of the unit. Students will get a check or no check in each box, if the
teacher feels as though a student only deserves half credit for any category the teacher can give a 1. Each category is
worth 2 points, meaning the entire evaluation is based on 10 points. All students need to receive at least an 8/10 for this
evaluation - otherwise they fail the behavior component of this unit.

Unit Evaluation
Students will be evaluated during this unit based on a point system. Each assignment or grading
assessment is based on a point value. As long as students complete the assignment they will receive at
least some points and based on their performance they may receive all of the possible points for each
assignment and ultimately for the entire unit. Each assignment or assessment is based on a different point

Results of Assessment
Behavior Evaluation
This form will be completed by the teacher at the end of the unit. Students will get a check or no check in each box, if the
teacher feels as though a student only deserves half credit for any category the teacher can give a 1. Each category is
worth 2 points, meaning the entire evaluation is based on 10 points. All students need to receive at least an 8/12 for this
evaluation - otherwise they fail the behavior component of this unit.

Discussion:
On the above assessment, students were able to earn or lose points for the entire swimming
unit. Based on the results, I would be able to show students how their behavior affected their grade for
this unit. From analyzing this I can see that I need to do a better job of enforcing my high expectations for
students to dress for the pool.
