Technology solutions for students with


special needs
Students with special needs and students with exceptionalities refer
both to students who that interfere with learning and students who
are gifted and may need special instructional strategies to reach
their potential.
Disability- can be a obvious condition, such as a physical restriction
that affects walking or motor coordination, or it can be something
that cannot be readily seen. ( a learning disability that makes
reading and writing difficult.

intellectual disabilities
autism

Technology can provide a voice for for students


who cannot speak and alternative input modalities
for those who cannot or physically respond in
usual ways.
The touch interface is especially to very young
children, those with intellectual disabilities or
developmental delays and children with an autism
spectrum disorder.
Talented and gifted (TAG) computer technology
can provide access to information and stimulating
resources at appropriately challenging levels.

Students with physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy and
muscular dystrophy and students with other disabilities such as
autism, down syndrome and learning disabilities often find
handwriting to be very challenging.
Word processing
Concept mapping provides structure and organization for the writing
process and allows all students to visually see how abstract ideas
are interconnected

Word prediction Software


The composing process that is a challenge for many students with
special needs can be supported through the use of word prediction
software
Helpful tools for students with physical disabilities who have
difficulty typing and or who speed typing may be slow.
Talking word processor
Text-to-speech/talking word process program: programs such as
writeAloud, Reads aloud whatever the student has written.
Talking spell checkers
Reads aloud any misspelled words and every suggestion in the list of
correct words.

Recorded books- made by recording a person reading aloud.
appropriate for students who understand the material when they
hear it.
digital book- internet sites that provide files of text that have already
been converted to electronic format.
high-interest low vocabulary- appropriate for students who have not
yet mastered the skills needed to read and understand material

of instructional content or cognitive process.
