Groundwater

Groundwater lies beneath the ground surface, filling pores in rocks and sediments. It represents a small fraction of Earth's total water but is slowly replenished by precipitation. Groundwater flows through aquifers, which are saturated geologic formations, and movement is influenced by the slope of the water table and the rock's permeability. It can be contaminated as it moves through the subsurface and accessing it requires drilling wells into aquifers.
