Egg Drop Final Reflection

Eric Coyotl designed an egg container with wings to slow its descent. His hypothesis that the wings would cause a slow spin and fall was correct. The container successfully landed the egg without breaking it. To improve the design, Eric could make the container smaller and lighter to fall more slowly. The best designs observed were spherical shapes that cushioned the egg inside from any impact. The purpose of the project was to learn problem-solving and the design process through experimentation. Egg containers can relate to transporting fragile items safely. Eric enjoyed the project because it was interesting to see different designs and how well they worked.

Reflection Questions
1. Was your hypothesis right? In other words, did you correctly
state a hypothesis that was true after you dropped your egg?
Yes, my container spun and fell slowly due to the wings that were
attached on the sides.
2. Was your egg contraption sucessful? If so why? If not, why?
It was successful because it fell slowly and it landed in a way that
protected the egg from any direct impact with the floor.
3. What could you have done to make your container more
successful?
I couldve made it smaller and make it weigh less in order for the
container to fall much slower and with less force.
4. After watching the egg drops, who had the best design?
What made their design different from yours?
Most containers that were shaped like spheres. They held the egg in the
middle, which protected the egg by cushioning the fall no matter which side
it fell on.
5. What do you think the overall purpose of this project was?
I think the overall purpose was to learn how to solve a problem and the
process of experimenting your design in order to improve itand make it a
better overall design.
6. How could you relate these egg contraptions to real life
situations?
They can help with transporting fragile items as well as delivering them
in a way that makes it easy and intact. Also, looking for the best design can
help with the cost of the container as well as how easy it is to manufacture.
7. State one new thing you learned from this project.

I learned how cardboard can be manipulated to be able to float and slowly

descend to the ground. I saw this in projects with larger wings as well as
parachutes.
8. Did you enjoy this project, if so why? And if not, why?
I did because it was very interesting to see everyones different design and
how well they worked. It was fascinating to see how people confronted the
problem and how they each designed theirs accordingly. Having the design
weighed also adds that extra element of competitveness which makes it
more interesting.
