Thegiversocraticseminar 2
In the beginnings of chapter 11, the giver erases the memories of the first
trainings, of the sled, and the snow, and the runners. Jonas then questions
the giver and he answers saying that this is a very, very old memory that's
been passed through generations of Receivers. The reason they don't have
snow anymore is because of climate control. Weather that wasn't conducive
to growing crops was essentially eliminated when they "went to
Sameness."Jonas says that the giver can change this rule back, but then the
giver replies he has honor, but no power. In chapter twelve he has a dream
that takes him back to his first training, although the giver has removed the
memory, he said
that there are thousands of memories just like it. Jonas then never tells his
parents.Jonas comes back from his memory and The Giver has him look up
at one of the books on the shelf, which immediately "changes" the way the
apple did. The giver says that he is starting to see the color red. Jonas then
starts to see colors everywhere, he then gets angry that the world is split
into colors. He gets mad that his friends are having a memory of a dull life,
why?The Giver sends Jonas to the top of the hill, where his first day of
training began. The giver explains how your memories can determine
wisdom. the giver transmits painful memories to Jonas, ending in a nice one.
Jonas wishes to live a normal live, like his friends, but the giver insistes that
he shall look back. The Giver later takes him back to Christmas. He notices
that Jonas wished for love, which Jonas regrets immediately. The giver
replies that the word could later on be meaningless. Back at the house,
Gabriels crib is still in Jonass room, were his parents say it should stay. In
the last chapter, the people of the village hear of a new holiday over the
speakers.
