This week in FDK-3

We celebrated mass as a school community

For Our Community Helpers Unit, we had an ambulance and a
firetruck visit.
In Language: We wrote a THANKYOU to Paramedic Julie and sent pictures to
Captain Hubbell for visiting and teaching us about their careers. We worked on
alphabet skills. We worked on sorting all the lower case letters and then we
practiced printing the l and the k. We learned some basic background information
about the Community workers that came in to speak with us: firefighters and
paramedics.
Miss Mason reminded us she is aiming to have ALL books back by June 3 to begin
her Library inventory. If your child has any outstanding books (longer than the
regular one week borrowing period), please return.
Gym: We played a new cooperative game called Beaver Sam. We used the skipping
ropes and the balls and scoops.
Religion: We reviewed Pentecost Sunday when the Holy Spirit enabled Jesus
followers to begin teaching in different tongues. We celebrated mass as a
community.
Science: The children worked with Miss Angenent to track the growth of the
sunflowers. Mollys apple seed sprouted on the window! The Amaryllis is growing
TALL!
We also concluded our up close and personal study of the baby rabbits when they
left the nest.
The children built ramps after watching a monster truck video.
In Art: we had no formal art this week

In Music, Drama and Dance: Miss Angenent continues with Musical Lunches and
dance parties. Jungle book music continues to be popular. We had a Buddy visit
and danced to GO NOODLE.
There was lots of role playing paramedics, firefighters and policemen after our
recent visits. The children made cars, stations and uniforms.
In Mathematics: We continued studying probability. We discussed the likelihood
of flipping heads or tails on a coin and why. We did an experiment to confirm our
thoughts. Then we looked at the likelihood of landing on a colored quadrant on a
spinner.
We signed in with graphs every day ex. would you rather be a policeman or a
firefighter?
In Personal and Social Development: Miss Angenent read THE GROWING
STORY. This led to a discussion about why the bunnies dont live as long as humans.
In Inquiry/Directed Play: Celebrating and learning about our community, we had a
firetruck and an ambulance visit. The fireman mentioning the ladder went up to the
7th story led to lots of building of tall structures.
