Polygon Hierarchy

Polygons are the most general shape and include all closed figures formed by line segments. They contain quadrilaterals as a subclass, which are polygons with four sides. Parallelograms are a type of quadrilateral where opposite sides are parallel and congruent, and are further divided into specific shapes like rectangles and squares that have additional properties like all angles or all sides being congruent.

Polygon Hierarchy

TatyannaGrate
1st Block

Polygons:any closed figure shape; formed by

segments.
Polygons are at the top because all figures that are below it in the hierarchy are
closed figures that are formed by segments

Quadrilaterals: Four-sided polygon that angles have

the sum of 360 degrees
Quadrilaterals are next because they are close figures that have 4-sides that are
formed by segments

Parallelograms: 2-sets of parallel sides; opposite

sides and angles are congruent. Diagonals bisect
each other
Parallelograms are connected to Quadrilaterals because they have a total of 4
sides; 2 opposite sides are congruent

Trapezoids:Exactly 1 pair of parallel sides; Diagonals

are congruent
Trapezoids are parts of Quadrilaterals because they have 4 sides but, only 2 of
them are parallel sides

Rectangles: 2-sets of parallel sides.Opposite sides

are congruent. All angles are congruent
Rectangles have 2 sets of opposite parallel sides that connect them to
parallelograms .All angles are congruent.

Rhombus: 2-sets of parallel sides. Opposite angles

are congruent. All sides are congruent.
A rhombus points to parallelograms because they have 2-sets of parallel
lines.All sides are congruent.

Squares:2-sets of parallel sides. All sides and

angles are congruent. Diagonals are congruent
Squares point towards everything because they have sides and angles that are
congruent.
