Summative Assessment: Proposal for a New School

Ms. Alyssa K. McLean
Education Reform Unit
Learning Target Assessment
Goal: Create a proposal for the design of the new Edward Little High School. The proposal must
have a strong argument for why your design is going to give students the best education. Your
argument must be supported with evidence from previous school designs that you have studied.
Role: School/curriculum designers
Audience: School Board, Administration of Edward Little High School, and the State of
Maines Department of Education.
Situation: Edward Little High School has been in danger of losing its accreditation since 2004
because of the state of its facilities. The city of Auburn cannot afford to fund the 63 million
dollar project and therefore the schools best hope of getting funding will be from the state. EL
was #16 on the states list of schools requesting funding based on need. This is a hopeful sign
because historically the state has funded the top 20 schools in the most need.
Product/Presentation: Proposal for new school in whatever medium you find best for your
design. The presentation will be a presentation/interview to a panel of people from the school
board, city of Auburn, Administration of Edward Little, and the State of Maine Department of
Education.
