Polygon Hierarchy

This document defines and provides examples of different types of polygons. It explains that a square is a rectangle and rhombus with four equal sides and four right angles. A rectangle has four straight sides and four right angles, especially with unequal adjacent sides. A rhombus is a parallelogram with opposite equal acute and obtuse angles and four equal sides. Parallelograms have opposite parallel sides. Trapezoids have only one pair of parallel sides. Quadrilaterals are four-sided figures. Polygons are plane figures with at least three straight sides and angles. Real-world examples are provided for each type of polygon.

SQUARES

A square is a polygon because its a closed figured. A plane figure with four equal
straight sides and four right angles. Denoting a unit of measurement equal to the
area of a square whose side is of the unit specified. A square is a rectangle because
all the sides are congruent, and its a rhombus because all angles are congruent
Real life Ex: Is a rubic cube

RECTANGLE

A plane figure with four straight sides and four right angles, especially one with
unequal adjacent sides, in contrast to a square.
5th, parallelogram, isosceles congruent angles and side
Real life Ex: A pact of mint gum

RHOMBUS

A parallelogram with opposite equal acute angles, opposite equal obtuse angles, and
four equal sides.
any parallelogram with equal sides, including a square.
Real world Ex:A baseball field

PARALLELOGRAMS

a four-sided plane rectilinear figure with opposite sides parallel.

Real life Ex: A earser

TRAPEZOIDS

a quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides.

a small carpal bone in the base of the hand, articulating with the metacarpal of the
index finger.
Real life Ex: A pocketbook

QUADRILATERALS

a four-sided figure.
having four straight sides.
Real life Ex: a kite

POLYGONS

a plane figure with at least three straight sides and angles, and typically five or
more.
Real life Ex: a stop sign
