Teacher Feedback: Name Date Unit/Crit Eria Teacher

Shray Khanna received teacher feedback on their audition for a specific music role. The teacher noted strengths in Shray's interview skills but areas for improvement in their musical performance. Specifically, the teacher said Shray's first song was too difficult and their breath control affected intonation, while their second song with guitar was stronger. The teacher advised focusing on breath control, especially in the upper register. They also suggested ways for Shray to better perform and sell themselves without an instrument, through body language and confidence. The teacher concluded Shray should work on choosing appropriate songs and selling their unique qualities in interviews.

Strengths
Shray, this was a good audition. There were a couple of wobbles in your
performance which need a little more focus however your interview came across
well.
You started your audition with a very difficult piece especially as it starts off a
Capella. This is incredibly brave as you are also dealing with nerves at this point.
The song was a little out of your range and if performed maybe a 3 rd lower would
have been a lot more effective. Your breath control needs a big focus as this was
causing your intonation to be a bit off in particular on some of the higher notes.
You have an excellent quality in your lower range which you should sell more.
However you performed your second piece like a different person. Having the
guitar helped you to become a performer! You were clearly more at ease and
enjoyed this performance which made us enjoy your performance a lot more. You
just need to be careful of the balance here, possibly play quieter or use a
microphone just to help with the louder sections. Again this was a difficult piece
but you were very well prepared and coped with it very well. You still need to
focus on your breath control and support in your upper register. In both of your

pieces your diction was very clear and you made a big effort to get the words
across to us, again the second piece this was extremely difficult to do but you did
a good job at doing this.
In your interview you came across very articulate and it was very clear that you
have a passion for music and want to continue studying music at higher
education. You do however need to sell yourself a little more. We want to know
what makes you special, why should we accept you over someone else. Dont be
modest, we want people to believe in themselves and be able to sell themselves
(no one else is going to do it for you). Your responses to the question were
answered with clarity and your body language was very positive. There was no
evidence of nerves by this point in your audition.

Improvements

Breath control and support is a must that needs improving in particular in

your upper register
When performing without your guitar how are you going to sell yourself as
a performer? What do you do with your hands, how do you stand, Where
do you look? Etc.
Song choice is it in the right key? Is it really going to show off what you
can do? Have you taken your nerves in to consideration by starting with a
difficult exposed piece?
Sell yourself more as a musician when answering questions what makes
you so special? Why are you the right person for the job/place at uni etc.
