Welcome to class! Heres what you should expect, & what is expected of you:
What to bring to class:
Pencil
Paper (or a Notebook)
Something to hold the papers in
(Folder or a Binder)
Geometry Textbook
(Optional) Scientific Calculator - We
also have a classroom set if you
dont have your own.
Expectations:
I just have a few rules, but they are very important to me! These rules are here so that everyone
can have a positive learning experience in my classroom.
Be Respectful to Yourself: Give yourself a chance to learn, & do your best work. Dont put
yourself down or say things like, I cant do this, or Im dumb. - I believe in your abilities, & so
should you.
Be Respectful to Others: Please keep a positive and helpful attitude toward others (no putdowns), allow others to work (dont distract them), & use appropriate language and actions.
Respecting others includes respect for Mrs. Thorne - Please stop talking & listen when I am
speaking, & try to follow directions the first time they are given.
Be Respectful to this Classroom: Please keep the classroom furniture & supplies neat &
clean.
All students make their own choices concerning their behavior in class. Failure to follow
classroom and school expectations will result in a verbal reminder. If inappropriate behavior
continues, students will be referred to RTC (the Responsible Thinking Classroom), & a parent
will be contacted. Extreme or continuing behaviors will result in the student being referred to the
office &/or a conference with a parent being scheduled.
Classroom Procedures:
Students will come in, sit down, & start the daily problem(s). After we go over the daily
problem(s), we will briefly go over questions from the previous nights homework before
students turn it in. Then I will go over the lesson & notes before assigning new homework. I will
try to give students time at the end of class to work on homework. Please raise your hand if you
have something to say or ask, & when given class time to work on an assignment, please use it
for this purpose.
Procedures (cont.):
Leaving the Room - If you need to use the restroom / get a drink / go to your locker, please raise
your hand to ask permission. There will be a sign out sheet by the door. Only 1 person may be
gone from the classroom at a time. If excessive breaks are being taken by a student, this
privilege may be taken away.
What you need to know about grades:
Tests & Quizzes = 60%
Daily Work (includes Homework & Participation) = 25%
Final Exam = 15%
You may correct homework to receive points back. Late homework will be accepted, but
will receive a 10% deduction.
You may retake quizzes. Retakes are due within 1 week & you must make
arrangements with Mrs. Thorne. The better grade will be counted.
Tests (but NOT the final) may be corrected to earn up to half credit back. In order to
make test corrections, you must complete any missing work from that chapter.
Corrections are due by the end of each quarter & arrangements must be made with Mrs.
Thorne.
Policies to be aware of:
Cheating - Cheating will result in an automatic zero.
Cell Phones - Keep it put away, or I will take it away.
Chromebooks - You may only have it out if we are using them for class or if you are
done with your work and ask for my permission. If you have unnecessary tabs open
(games, videos, etc.) or are using the Chromebook inappropriately, you will lose the
privilege to use this tool.
Tardies - If you are not in your assigned seat when the bell rings, you will be counted
tardy.
Absences - It is your responsibility to find out what you missed. If you know you are
going to be absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you will miss & make it up
BEFORE you are gone. You will have 2 days to complete missed work (notes,
classwork, homework) & 5 days to make up missed quizzes or tests.
Please follow school policies & the Code of Conduct
Never hesitate to see me if you have questions about your grade. Notices will be sent at midterm, and there will be a cumulative final exam at the end of each semester. If you have
questions or need help, please feel free to stop by Mrs. Thornes room before or after school.
Im glad youre here, & Im looking forward to a great year with you!
Thank you!
Mrs. Thorne may make changes to this at any time, but you will be notified if I do.
NOTE TO PARENTS: If you have not signed up for a Parent Portal password and you have
computer access it would be a great benefit for you to do so. I will post assignments and grades
on Parent Portal on a weekly basis. Contact the school office or the technology department to
find out more about obtaining a password.
Please feel free to contact me about any questions regarding classroom policies or concerns
about your child. If we work together, we will have much greater success than if we work alone!
