'80s Games

The 80s were thriving when it came to games. The


most famous arcade games like Tetris, Pac Man,
Galaga, Donkey Kong, and Dig Dug were created. To
this day you will still see Pac Man and Tetris games
because the games from the 80s were so influential.
Many people started to game in a serious matter with
these new arcade games, in fact there is even a
documentary on the world champion of Donkey Kong
called The King of Kong.

'80s Fashion Trends

In the 1980s there fashion isnt far from our


fashion today. Crop tops, leg warmers, high
waisted pants, and color were the biggest
fashion trends for women.
As for men, they seemed to dress like soft
biker boys. Jean jackets, flooding, collared
shirts with the chest open up and the collars of
the shirt often lifted, and also muscle shirts.

'80s movies

In 1980s variety of movies where


coming out. Some movies that came
out back then are childhood
memories for 90s babies. The movies
that came out then the originals now
in today's time they remake them big
and better.

'80s Music

Music have been here for decades, 80s


had all the legends the artist that we
look up to in today's music business.
Which also made an foundation for
other artist to have a career now. Music
in the 80s was more soul and R&B, with
little Country and Rap.
We still listen to the music today with a
reminder of where it all started.

Civil Rights

One of the profound leaders for Civil


Rights, Martin Luther King Jr., finally
got his own federal holiday on his
birthday. It was pushed after his
assassination in 1968. Ronald Reagan
vetoed the Civil Rights Restoration Act
saying it gave the federal government
overreaching powers. The Civil Rights
Restoration Act specified that the
recipients of federal funds must
comply with the Civil Rights laws in all
areas, not just the specific program
that received the federal funding.

The 1980s were the


start of women
beginning to thrive.
Women were more
involved in the
working field and
more accepted into
society. Womens
participation in the
work force came from
a low 15% to a high
71% after world war ll.
By 1985 the census
guaranteed that more
than half of the
workers were young

'80s Voting Rights

Voting Rights was still being fought


for in the early to late 80s for other
anesthetics as in African Americans,
Puerto Ricans, and Mexicans. Even
though they were allowed to vote
since 1972 they were still being
treated as if they weren't allowed.
They had to go through a lot of
steps just to make one vote and only
males were allowed to vote.

'80s Treaties

The most important treaty in the


80s was the Intermediate-Range
Nuclear Forces Treaty signed in
Washington D.C. by Ronald Reagan
and General Secretary Mikhail
Gorbachev from the Soviet
Union.The treaty declared no
nuclear and conventional groundlaunched ballistic and cruise
missiles within a certain distance.

'80s Immigration

Illegal immigration was a constant


thing throughout the 1980s. Many of
the immigrants came through land
routes in Canada and Mexico. The
Immigration Reform Act attempted
to inscribe the issue by producing
better enforcement of immigration
policies and making more
possibilities to seek legal
immigration.

'80s War

The first war that began September


22, 1980 to August 1988. It was
called Iran-Iraq War , it was longest
conventional war. It was referred as
the Gulf War in the early 1990s later
on.During this war both sides lost
millions of soldiers who were citizens
died or injured. The war brought
neither reparations nor change in
boards.
The United states alongside
international powers was supporting
Iran with loans, military equipment
against Iranian target.

'80s Presidents

Ronald Reagan was president from 19811989, Ronald Reagan was not just some
leader, he was one of us. He was a
genuine person and applied that to his
presidency which is why he was loved by
almost everyone. Before him, Jimmy
carter was the president, known for
being the president during a time of high
inflation and rising energy costs. He was
also the first president from the deep
south in over 100 years. Reagan is known
for being the president during the end of
the cold war. He is also known for being a
Hollywood star who rose to be president.

Minorities in the '80s

During the 1980s many Americans


hoped that racial tension would be
ending soon. Situations like the Miami
Riot og 1980 and the killing of
innocent Chinese American Vincent
Chin in 1982 created brutal images
that haunted Americans for years.
Situations like these causes
Americans to feel that racial tension
was only growing stronger and
stronger. In 1983, President Reagan
signed a bill that made MLK day the
first federal holiday since the 40s.

Women in the '80s

Woman in the 1980s where coming up and


being heard.New opportunites where coming
up from women in the 80s they were not being
limited to things and where gaining equality.
Things began to change in social attitude
towards gender roles, women would be able to
join the military, United states Armed Forces
also supreme court.With women accomplishing
their goal make gender discrimination illegal.

Cars made a huge breakthrough from


the 70s to the 80s up to the 80s the
majority of cars were muscle cars with
gas guzzling engines, the game
changed when throttle-body injection
was created. Throttle-Body injection
made cars more reliable and more fuel
efficient. Some new features cars
included were the cassette player,
headlight wipers, bench seats for
maximum seating and digital gauges.
Vehicles were now also being made so
that if you were in an accident the
vehicle would crumble and roll with
the punch instead of the older cars
where they would hit something and
the driver would take the hit instead.

'80s Vaccines and common diseases

Hepatitis B and Haemophilus


influenzae type b were released in the
80s. Hepatitis B had been licensed in
1981 but was only recommended to
infants, healthcare works, intravenous
drug users, homosexual men, and
people who were thots. Between
1980s and the early 1990s AIDS took a
big toll on Americans between 25 and
64 years old while pneumonia and
influenza deaths were common in
people ages 65 and older. Overtime ,
the Vaccination rate has increased
tremendously.

80s scientists

Women and men where scientist in


the 80s. But they all where focused
on something different to help the
world be more updated you can say.
Well known women scientists in the
80s was Flossie Wong-Staal was in
the field of Virology/Molecular
biology. She was the women to
discover Aids and HIV which was very
common in the 80s.
Other aspect of science /scientists
having TV shows back then number
one show was Star Trek: New
Generation
