Implicit Differentiation

1) Implicit differentiation is used to find the derivative of an equation that contains both y and x, when y cannot be solved for explicitly in terms of x. 2) It involves taking the derivative of each term in the equation and attaching dx/dy to the terms containing y. 3) Once the derivative is obtained, it can be set equal to the derivative of the terms containing x only to solve for dy/dx, the derivative of y with respect to x, which provides the slope at any given point that is plugged back into the original equation.
