The roundtable, cohosted by NRCAL and CABE in San


Francisco, gathered educators and community leaders from
California State University - Fullerton, San Diego State
University, University of California - Los Angeles, California
Association for Bilingual Education, Westminster School District,
Garden Grove Unified School District, Highline Public Schools,
East Side Union High School District, Association of the
Vietnamese Language and Culture Schools, and Vietnamese
American Chamber of Commerce. Participants discussed relevant
issues pertaining to Vietnamese language programs such as
development of instructional materials, teacher training, student
recruitment, and community engagement.

The above sites provide students with the option of picking from
different story elements including characters, expressions, and
settings to create visual narratives. Students can use the above
tools to illustrate various scientific and historical concepts or
make new personal narratives or literary texts. These tools will
make the inner artist of each student bloom to display their work
and creativity.

The above fun tools can be used for language learning


and making meaning from texts. Students can find the
patterns in literary works, poems, and songs. They can
learn the key terms from different texts. Students can
analyze the frequency of different words in different
texts.

Saving the Oral Histories of Japanese Internees
Cal State Fullerton is one of 15 California State University campuses collaborating on the
digitization of almost 10,000 documents and more than 100 oral histories related to the
confinement of Japanese-Americans during World War II.

The contents of this newsletter were developed under a grant from the Department of Education. However, those contents do not necessarily represent the policy of the Department of Education, and
you should not assume endorsement by the Federal Government.
