Chapter 4 - Copy 2

This document discusses air control and humidity in buildings. It covers topics like ventilation, humidity, condensation, and remedies for condensation. Ventilation is the process of changing air from outside to inside a building. It supplies oxygen and removes pollutants. Humidity refers to the amount of water vapor in air. High humidity can cause condensation inside buildings. Condensation occurs when warm moist air meets a surface at or below the dew point. The document provides information on measuring and specifying humidity, including using psychrometric charts. It also discusses causes of and remedies for condensation in buildings.

Water vapor
- can be defined as a substance in the gases
state which might be liquefied by compression.
- For example, it formed naturally in the space
above
liquid water which is left open to the air.
Saturation

Humidity

Saturated air is the air that contain the maximum

amount of water vapour possible at that
temperature.
Saturated Vapour Pressure (SVP)
Vapour pressure increase at the amount of water
vapour increase and at the saturation, the vapour
pressure reach a steady value called the saturate
vapour pressure
SVP is the vapour pressure of water vapour in an
air that contain the maximum amount of vapour
possible at that temperature

Some of the properties of water

vapour:
Moisture content (Unit : Kg/kg or dry air)
Vapour pressure (Unit : Pascal)

Specificati
on of
humidity

Vapour pressure is the partial pressure exerted by

the molecules of a vapour. The unit is Pascal

Dew point (Unit : oC or K

Dew point is the temperature in which a fixed

sample of air becomes saturated.
Relative humidity (Unit :%)

The relative humidity of a sample of air compares

the actual amount the moisture in the air with the
maximum amount of moisture the air can contain
at that temperature.

Principle of Condensation
Condensation in a building occurs whenever warm
moist air meets surface that are or below the dew
point of that air
1. Surface condensation
a.occurs on the surface of walls, windows, ceiling
and floor.

b.It occurs as a film of moisture or as a beads of

2. Interstitial condensation
occurs within the construction of a building as
