Mrs.

Grays Class Syllabus

At the beginning of each semester students will receive a syllabus from me. Each
syllabus starts out with a course specific introductory paragraph which gives an
outline of topics we will cover and is followed by the information that you see here.
The copies given out at the beginning of the semester should be kept with other
history materials, but just in case they happen to go missing, here is the information
found on each course syllabus.
Basic Guidelines: I do not have a set list of classroom behavioral rules but rather
one rule that pretty much encompasses everything and that is simply to be
respectful; to the teacher, to your classmates, to yourself, to anyone else that may
come into our class, and to the school. All school rules such as the dress code, ID
policy, and cell phone policy apply in my classroom.
Teacher Contact: E-mails go straight through to my cell-phone so the quickest way
to get into contact with me is through e-mail at [email protected]. Feel free to
contact me anytime you have questions, comments or concerns. I will try to respond
as quickly as possible; however, I will not respond to e-mails sent after 9:00 p.m. If
you have an emergent need after 9:00 p.m. you should still e-mail me so that I see
that you attempted contact and at what time.
Teacher Website: My teacher website can be accessed in one of two ways; either by
clicking on my name on the Faculty/Staff page on the WECHS website or by typing in
the following address http://mrslgray.weebly.com/. On this website you will find basic
information about myself and the class along with a calendar of Upcoming Events. I
also use another website called Edmodo. I will generally post notes and assignment
instructions on this website, if you are absent you should check here first for missed
content. You will also be using Edmodo as a means of turning in assignments. The
link for this website is www.edmodo.com/laurengray. This site is privacy protected to
where only members of my class are allowed to see the content I post, however,
parent codes can be found on your profile page so that your parent/guardian can
keep up with any assignments that receive grades on Edmodo.
Calendars: At the start of each month students will receive a calendar of what they
can expect to be learning on particular days and that will also include important
events such as test/quiz dates, project due dates, schedule changes, etc. These
calendars are not concrete but are subject to change as needed.

Quizzes: Throughout the semester in addition to announced tests there will be
unannounced pop-up quizzes. These quizzes will not necessarily be based upon
what you are currently learning but will pull from information that you have learned
throughout the course in an effort to keep all of the content learned fresh in your
mind.
Late Work: No assignment will be accepted after its due date. If for some reason
you have an issue with a deadline you need to speak with me before the
assignment is due. However, keep in mind that not every circumstance will get you
excused. Assignments are expected to be turned in within the first five minutes of
class unless otherwise stated; assignments turned in after the five minute cutoff are
considered late and will not be accepted. Any assignments that you have completed
on your computer and need to be printed out should be printed out BEFORE the
start of class.
Absences- Assignments: If you are absent you have three days upon your arrival
back at school to make up any work that was assigned on the day(s) you were out
before I will no longer accept it. It is your responsibility to get your missing
notes/assignments; I will not track you down or remind you. If you are absent on a
day that something is due it must be turned in immediately upon your return or it
will not be accepted.
Absences- Tests & Quizzes: You have an unlimited amount of days to make up a test
or quiz that you were not present to take, however, I highly recommend taking
making it up within a week while the content is still fresh in your mind. If you are
absent and miss any of the notes for a test or quiz it is up to you to get those made
up because you will still be expected to take the test or quiz on its assigned date.
The only exception to this rule, for announced tests only, is if you have missed over
half of the notes needed for the test and have not had ample time to attain them
and study them.
Plagiarism: I have an extremely strict policy on plagiarizing work in my classroom.
Plagiarism is the act of using anothers work and claiming it as your own. Sources of
others work include but are not limited to; internet articles, websites, library books,
textbooks, magazines, newspapers, other students work, classroom notes, etc. I
expect everything to be written in your own words at all times. If ever you are
concerned that your work may be considered plagiarism please discuss it with me
before you turn it in so corrections can be made as needed. Plagiarized work earns
an automatic zero and a phone call home to your parent/guardian. Repeat offenders
will face stricter measures as necessary.
Tutoring: If you need additional help outside of class time please come talk to me
about setting up a time for tutoring. Work-It-Out days in your STAE class are the
best time for me to do tutoring. Also, you should use your STAE class to your
advantage and set-up study groups with others in your class.
