PJ Kennedy Kindergarten 1 Busy as a Bee

At School
As we start our curriculum called Opening
the World of Learning, we are reading
books about babies and talking about
families. Children who are read to every day
do better in school. To help you do that,
your child will be borrowing books from
school to take home once week, and then
returns then to school.

Discover
Going to the library together is a great
family activity! You and your child can
find books together that you can
borrow for free and read at home. Call
for library hours and dates and times of
childrens programs.

At Home
Create a special time to read to your child,
every day. Your child will enjoy reading to
you too! Pretend reading is the beginning
of real reading. It is great practice for a
child to make up his or her own story
based on the pictures. Enjoy reading books
with your child!
Talking with your child will help him or her
learn to read. This activity will give you
both something to talk about. Look at
Photos: Children love to look at pictures of
themselves and other family members.
They love to hear stories about when they
were little. Spend some time talking about
family members and what your child was
like as a baby. You might also talk about
where people live using words such as
apartment building, home, house and
neighborhood.
Things to bring to school:
Favorite stuffed animal for show
and tell
Fall leaves, acorns, and seeds
from around your neighborhood.

Your child learned this song at school. Try singing it

together, or teach your child a favorite song of your own:
If youre happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap twice)
If youre happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap twice)
If youre happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it.
If youre happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap twice)
