May or may not have conclusions…

Why GD’s…..
To evaluate a candidate on following grounds……….

 Initiative quality in a candidate.

 Ability to interact in a group.
 Communication skills
 Group behavior
 Body language, gestures,attitude
 Leadership ability
 Coordination
 Listening skills
GD :Norms & Protocol
• Usually 8 to 10 candidates per group
• U or circle shaped seating arrangement
• Addressing by roll number or name.
• No one is officially being chosen as leader or
coordinater
• Time alloted can be 15-20 mints.
• Summary can be given at the end by each candidate
or it may be asked by only one.
Strategy for participation
• Start discussion facing the person who is sitting
diagonally opposite to you
• Address the group as a whole if you want to initiate.
• Don’t initiate untill you have a really solid and
substantiate point about it.
• Show agreement or disagreement with the view
point ,not with the person.
• Encourage others also to speak.
• Seating should be formal ,straight back, hands in
front.
• Avoid excessive hand and body movements.
• Make eye contact with the whole group.
Discussion Techniques:
• How to join the discussion….
ex..I’d like to raise the subject of…
I think it’s important to consider the question
of….
May I make a point about….
• To support in agreement…
I’d like to support his /her views about..
I also think the same..
I agree fully with what RAM has just said
• TO Disagree with the point:
Don’t ever say: You are wrong
Say: I would like to differ
In my opinion….

• To make a point strongly:

I am convinced that
You can’t deny that…

• To bring a discussion back to the point

I am afraid we are drifting from the point
Could we stick to the point ,please
