Module 7 (Teacher) CH

The student carried out three experiments to study the effect of temperature on the rate of reaction between magnesium and hydrochloric acid. Experiment I was conducted at 30°C, Experiment II at 40°C, and Experiment III also at 40°C. The time taken for all the magnesium to dissolve decreased from Experiment I to Experiment III, indicating the rate of reaction increased with increasing temperature. Two additional experiments were conducted to determine the rate of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by manganese(IV) oxide. Experiment I used 2M hydrogen peroxide and Experiment II used 4M. The rate of decomposition was faster in Experiment II due to the higher concentration of reactants resulting in more frequent collisions according to collision theory.
