Childhood Obesity: 
Meal Prices have not changed.  Childhood obesity is the leading threat to children ages two through 19 in 
the United States. Twenty‐five million children are affected; that is one in 
Elementary Breakfast Price‐$1.00  every three American children. Described as our naPon’s greatest tragedy, 
Elementary Lunch Price‐$2.00  this generaPon is expected to be the first to live shorter lives than their 
Secondary Breakfast Price‐$1.25  parents. 
Secondary Lunch Price‐$2.25    Year aUer year more children are suffering the effects of unhealthy eaPng 
Adult Breakfast Price‐$1.75  and an inacPve lifestyle. The number of overweight and obese children has

Adult Lunch Price‐$2.90  17 tripled over the last forty years. Experts report conPnued increases in the

number of children diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, a disease once known

 Guidelines to help prevent childhood obesity:   
*Get specific advice from your child’s medical doctor and consider meePng 
with a registered diePPan. 
 *Model the eaPng and acPvity behaviors you want your children to 
develop.

*Turn off the screens (TV, computer, video games), limit these acPviPes to 
two hours or less per day. 
*Communicate posiPve messages about 
eaPng well and being acPve, instead of

*Engage your children in the process of 
planning, shopping and preparing 
healthy meals and snacks.
