Africa is the second largest continent, covering 11.7 million square miles and home to over 1 billion people. It contains many diverse physical features, including the Nile River, Congo River Basin, Niger River Basin, Sahara and Sahel deserts, African savannah, and tropical rain forests. The continent has a variety of climates and vegetation zones due to its vast size and location along the equator. Africa possesses significant natural resources and hydroelectric power potential from its many rivers and lakes.
